Hello sir hope you're doing well, il be glad to help you.
You should Able to scroll the list by swiping up with two fingers. Without
any issues.
Do you have auto-list scrolling on? It's on by default.
If it's on it should scroll the list automatically when your swiping through
the list.

[Mobile.AI] My First Week with the iPhone

2014-08-06 Thread Mujtaba Merchant
An interesting story of a visually impaired person with his new find,
the iPhone.

 Article can be read at:
http://blog.austinseraphin.com/2010/06/12/my-first-week-with-the-iphone/

 Comments:

Author talks about the inaccessibility of iTunes to manage content on
the iPhone. I agree with his point of view. However, after some effort
I as a blind user was able to manage navigating, sharing content and
working the application like anyone else. It needs more patience to
work with and there is a lot of support around the web incase you hit
a brick wall.

The love and hate relationship with the iPhone started when I was
asked to try out the 5c that my friend got from the US. Can the phone
be used by a blind person? Hell Yeah! Unlike the android phone where
you need to launch an app. called Google Talk to get the phone
talking, on the iPhone it's a setting change and you are good to go.
The screen reader on the iPhone is called VoiceOver. The voice has 2
variations Male and Female; both equally good to listen to and have
great clarity.

How do I get voice over working? Settings General Accessibility
Vision VoiceOver. Toggle it to ON.

NOTE: The gestures will change once VO is turned on. Touch any part
of the screen to read out what is under your finger. To activate any
app. double tap anywhere on the screen once VO has spoken the name of
the application. you want to launch.

What did I do on this phone? Well the first thing I did was use the
phone app. where I was able to dial numbers, save contacts, add
numbers to favourites, delete numbers, add details to contacts etc.

Secondly, I used the messaging app. got used to the on screen
keyboard in 30 minutes; a slow learning day; but it's pretty much the
same like the desktop keyboard. I used the touch type method which I
found more productive to use. For those of you who don't know about
this kind of typing when you lift the finger off the alphabet you
want, it accepts it. Saves you 1 tap :D

Next I went social and tried out the Facebook, Youtube and What's
app. applications on the phone. All very easy to use and interact
with. Only place where I am stuck is that in the Facebook app. there
are many posts where links to videos/ articles are mentioned and I
cannot interact with them. Have not figured out on how to do this yet.

Started surfing with the Safari app. browser on the iPhone. Got bored
in less than 10 minutes and gave up.

Using iTunes on the computer I learned to create playlists of my
favourite albums from Pink Floyd. Then sync them to the phone and
using the ear buds that came with the phone to listen to the songs.
Well I don't need an iPod this iPhone killed the need for one.
Managing the playlists, songs on the iPhone was also easy to do but
hate the idea of syncing the phone everytime I need new music on it.

I got adventurous and started playing with Siri. First I asked it to
set my alarm for 5AM and it did so. It even prompted me with a
confirmation which was good manners for it to do. Then in the texting
application I used the dictate button to type my message and I would
say it's 98% accurate.

Tactile Home, Power, Volume Control and Silent mode buttons are to
thank for. I found the switch to silent mode on the phone a clumsy
thing to work with. Always feel I will snap it off or accidently
activate it.

Things I hate about the iPhone.

Basic feature of not having the radio. I am a big radio junkie in the
mornings while commuting to work.
Have to be connected to the internet to be able to use Siri the
dictate features on the phone (I know there is a big technology behind
this)
Can't make any song your ringtone (figured a workaround for it)
Getting your contacts from your old phone to the iPhone makes
climbing Mt. Everest look like a walk in the park.
Phone feels like a delicate darling in the hand.
Heavy on the pricing, since all visually impaired people don't have
jobs that pay, they will have to depend on some relative to buy this
phone for them. Basically pay more or less price as sighted folks for
the same item.
Damn this iTunes is a pain.
Apple id, email id, employee id oh my too many id's!
Can't just drag and drop files into the phone.
Cannot create groups in contacts.

NOTE: I do not own this phone yet. But have understood how to manage
calls, texting and surfing on the phone. There are some really good
resources online i.e. Youtube appleviz to help you get the basics of
using this phone.

I have configured Aqua mail in the device and the two step

I had been visiting my google account settings page in web and trying

 Kindly suggest.

[Mobile.AI] Samsang Galaxy Famous not user friendly?

2014-08-06 Thread Renuka Warriar Edakkunni
Friends,
I purchased the mobile phone Samsang Galaxy Famous, but it seems, I
made a blunder by doing it, for it seems, it is not so user friendly.
Eg, when I try to search a condact person, when a letter is typed,
only one person starting with the letter is announced. When I swipe
upwords or downwards, the other names are not being announced and so,
I am unable to find the required person. Now that I have purchased
it, is there any method to make it user friendly?

Expecting a speedy reply,

Renuka

Hello,
No special setting needed. This works everywhere. Just one correction, the
jesture is swipe up and right, not swipe down and then right.

The gesture for suspending talkback has been explained by Chetan. Just
swipe your finger down then right, it will open global context menue,
find an option in extreme left upper corner for pausing feedback. Just
 click it.
But make sure you have enabled resume feedback on screen lock under
accessibility settings. I don't find this option very attractive,
because I have given my phone to my sighted friend, each time after
screen is locked, talkback gets started.

There is a gesture to temporarily suspend TalkBack in the global
context menu (swipe down then right). After TalkBack is paused it
launches automatically after the screen is locked.

Hope you mentioned about Galaxy Fame. Install DW contacts and dialer and use
this app instead default app. I don't understand why you can't get all the
contacts. In my Galaxy Core with the same Android version, I can see all the
contacts while searching.

Subject: [Mobile.AI] Samsang Galaxy Famous not user friendly?

Friends,
I purchased the mobile phone Samsang Galaxy Famous, but it seems, I
made a blunder by doing it, for it seems, it is not so user friendly.

Renuka

[Mobile.AI] accessible music player app.

2014-08-06 Thread Surya Prakash Sharma
Hello all,
sharing information about an accessible music app which I received
from another mailing list
There is an app that will play all the music in a particular
folder, and it's accessible, too. It's called Music Folder Player,
 naturally enough:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.zorillasoft.musicfolderplayer

This app describes itself as follows:

Music Folder Player was made for people who don't like to see music
displayed based on artist, album, track or playlists.

It also has a lovely feature called something like Professional
musicians mode, which stops playback after the track you've just
selected stops playing. I'd be lost without this feature! grin

No special setting needed. This works everywhere. Just one correction, the

jesture is swipe up and right, not swipe down and then right.

But make sure you have enabled resume feedback on screen lock under

A phone is considered hearing aid compatible under FCC rules if it is rated
M3 or M4 for acoustic coupling and T3 or T4 for inductive coupling. These
ratings are given on a scale from one to four, where four is the most
compatible.*

TTY Mode

Use Fire phone with your TTY. TTY Mode offers Full, HCO (Hearing Carry
Over), and VCO (Voice Carry Over) options. Some TTY models may require a TTY
adapter (sold separately) to connect to your phone.

Stereo to Mono Audio

If you are using a single ear bud or have hearing in one ear, simply switch
the Stereo to Mono Audio setting to mono on your phone to direct all audio
through a single channel.

Mobility

Amazon Voice Assist

The Dictation feature and voice input on your Fire phone helps you take
notes, send text messages, make phone calls and more, simply by speaking.

One-Handed Navigation and Shortcuts

Use one-handed navigation and shortcuts: tilt, auto-scroll, swivel and peek
to access menus and links for quicker, easier navigation. With auto-scroll,
you can scan a long web page or multiple pages of a book without ever having
to touch the screen.

Low Motion Mode

With Low Motion Mode, you can turn off tilt, auto-scroll, swivel, peek, and
Dynamic Perspective features so that the way you look at and hold your phone
will not automatically launch any actions or panels.
