You can get Rivo from Saksham only.
It is a great keyboard if you are willing to spend time to learn and
practice it.

One of the interesting developments regarding the same on Android platform I've
come across is that the Indian English voice dictation is now available for
offline use, which means, to be able to use the voice dictation in purely an
Indian accent, be that in English or Hindi, you need not to have an active
internet connection. Is the same feature available on I Phone as well?

Re: [Mobile.AI] Good Food Talks - Have you tried us? Options for foodies are increasing

2016-03-23 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
If you want to help me in doing this, then yu get a sighted person to create
an account in my website.
Then it will provide a form to type out the address and menu of the
restaurant.
The sighted person can read from the print hard copy or scanned menu card
and type it out on Good Food Talks.
If interested, please read menu upload process at this page:
http://goodfoodtalks.in/login/

If all this is not possible, then just tell me the restaurant name and
location and I will try to get it done from my side.

So what will be the way of adding the menus? If I may want to add the menu
of few restaurants, what should I do? Should I type out it and then send to
you, or simply send you the snapshot of the menu?

2016-03-22 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
Dear Aaruni ji,
We got many restaurant suggestions from Lucknow and have added them.
It will be great if you can mobilize some support to type out the menus from
your city.
Anyone can open the "submit a menu" link on this website and then create an
account and proceed to type out the menu.
The instructions are available there.

I can also get some of the menus uploaded from here.
Please go to the suggest a restaurant link and send me the name and location
of restaurant you want to see in Good food Talks.

The android app is only a launcher for the web app.
The website is not a general website. It is highly customized and optimized
for display on mobile devices.

Hello,

Is the gft Android app has a standalone function,? Or it is just a shortcut
to the website? I could only open the website through the app.

Re: [Mobile.AI] [AI] How is KNFB Reader better than other free scan apps?

2015-12-22 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
KNFB is better due to three reasons.
1. it helps the blind take a better picture of the object. There is field of
view and tilt guidance feature which enables even a totally blind to take
photo of the complete page with good focus. With other OCR apps, blind
person is never sure if the complete page is fitting into the picture. .
2. the recognition engine of KNFB are far better than any other OCR app.
3. KNFB has features for reading and navigating the recognized text.
Reading with in-built TTS or screen reader is easy.

I use it to demo the power of technology. Everyone is amazed to see its
performance. Some people commented that blind are not "blind" now. They can
instantly read print.

Though the price difference between online store and apple store is nearly
6,000 rupees, still I would recommend to buy from official apple store. As
there is no guarantee that you would get fresh device through online store.
As online store, be it flipkart or amazon, both have 30 days replace/return
policy, it has been observed and reported by the customers that they are
getting the devices already used, though not for long time but it is sure
they got a used device.
Even in my case (not the mobile), but several times I got electronic devices
those were not seal packed, looked already used and not packed well.
Therefore don't compromise for few bucks.

Re: [Mobile.AI] Wanting to buy Iphone 6

2015-12-15 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
I bought 6s when it was just launched. The price of iPhone 6s 16 GB in the
stores was 62 k whereas Amazon was selling it at 56,000.
The price of all items in the stores is higher as compared to these online
portals.
I believe the stores need to cover the cost of maintaining their big
showrooms and need their commission/profit.
I have asked the stores about this and they admit that now no one can mathch
the online prices for any item.

Prashant sir, you didn't save 6,000, but in fact you saved 11,000 rupees if
I talk about Apple Store. The latest price of 6S on Apple store is 60K,
while amazon price are only 49K.
Can anybody explain this economics to me why such a huge price difference?

[Mobile.AI] 3D touch is working good with Voiceover

2015-10-31 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
Hi,

Bought a iPhone 6s and tested the 3d touch feature. It has been made
accessible with voiceover.

The context menus that pop up on pressing hard icons on the home screen do
expedite tasks.

There is a very good guide on AppleVis to use this feature. checkout

Best,

Prashant

Hello,
There are a few DAISY players on Android platform.
DDReader+ is a free app and will play DAISY 3 format books both with and

Darwin Reader is a paid app that will play DAISY books of all types.
GoRead will read bookshare files and any other daisy 3 text only book.

All these apps are available on Play store.

Another app in development phase can be downloaded from

Re: [Mobile.AI] which phone should you buy?

2013-04-19 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
Hi,
Accelerometer allows the phone to detect movement. Using this type of
sensors apps create features like shake to read the time, flip the phone to
turn off ringing, shake to start reading text etc.
Proximity sensor is used to detect the closeness of the face from the phone
and is used to turn off touch on the screen when phone is held close to
the face.

barometers or thermometers if present will give you better information
about temperature in your environment. This information can also be obtained
without these sensors from the nearest weather station using the network.

So, in general sensors build additional functionality in the phone and are
desirable. They are not essential for accessibility but the additional
functionality can enhance usability.

Subject: Re: [Mobile.AI] which phone should you buy?

hello,
so far we have been discussing the various models from the angle of several
aspects like considering cpu, ram, touch screen size, camera resolution,
processor speed etc. but one thing on which i would like to have some
review on to choose these models is sensors.

while having look at the infinite models available in the market for android
platform and considering its neumerous features, i get confused several time
in understanding the exact functions of sensors associated with it.

while looking at the features of these models, i come across the
terminologies of sensors such as acceleration, geomagnetic field strengt,
field strength, angular change, virtual sensors or synthetic sensors, The
linear acceleration sensor and gravity sensors.

Few Android-powered devices have every type of sensor. For example, most
handset devices and tablets have an accelerometer and a magnetometer, but
fewer devices have barometers or thermometers.

as i understand that sensors implies Any device that receives a signal or
stimulus (as heat or pressure or light or motion etc.) and responds to it in
a distinctive manner. so i consider it pressure as our prime function in
using tap method over the touch screen. so in the given situation, i would
like to know that does selection of sensors signifies the extent of
accessibility for visually impaired?
if so, what would be the best option to choose the sensor type? if this does
not affect the accessibility to use talk back or any accessible app then
what is its functionality?

experts please throw some light on this. if my question is foolish, then
please ignore it as just raised to satisfy my curiocity.

thanks,

EPUB is a format for digital books. It is the widely adopted format for
publishing ebooks for reading on computers, mobiles tablets.
EPUB standard has also undergone several updates and the latest version is
EPUB3. This version includes many accessibility features but it depends upon

To read EPUB on the computer you may use Adobe Digiral Editions.

Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

New American Foundation for the Blind App Helps People with Vision Loss
Easily Take Notes on iPhoneR, iPadR, and iPod touchR

New York (February 1, 2013)-For the millions of Americans with vision loss
looking for a simple, convenient way to take notes at work, at school, or at
home, the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) today launched the
AccessNoteT, a specialized notetaker for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Apple products have earned high points from us for their out-of-the-box
accessibility for users who are blind or visually impaired, said Carl R.
Augusto, AFB president and CEO. We designed this app to complement the
iPhone's other popular features, like web browsing and email, so that users
who are blind have all the tools they need in one, handy device.

A traditional notetaker is a portable electronic device that enables users
who are blind or visually impaired to take notes, create documents, and
access applications. These devices, extremely valuable for people who are
blind or visually impaired, usually provide either speech or braille output
(or both). They retail for upwards of $2,000 and much more for those with a
built-in braille display; AFB's AccessNote app is available for $19.99.

In addition to being a low-cost alternative to traditional notetakers,
AccessNote allows users to combine efficient notetaking with many other
features and functions of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This allows
people who are blind or visually impaired to use the same popular devices
that their sighted peers are using in classroom or business settings.

This is the first notetaking app developed and designed specifically for
users with vision loss. AFB evaluated many of the other available notetaking
apps, but found none to be very efficient or user-friendly to people who are
blind or visually impaired.

What sets the AccessNote apart includes:

. Seamless Navigation. Customized keyboard commands make notetaking more
intuitive and productive than ever before, including quick access to
important features like Search All Notes, Search Within a Note, as well as
several navigation options.

. Automatic Saving. With an automatic save on every few keystrokes, notes
will never be lost.

. Cursor tracking. When navigating among multiple sets of notes, users can
always pick up right where they left off.

. Unparalleled Simplicity. With a clutter-free interface, users can create,
read, find, and sync, making it easier to spend more time with actual
content and less time with tools.

. DropBox Integration. All notes, always on hand. DropBox keeps AccessNote
in sync with the user's desktop (and other devices) so their notes are
always available and backed up.

. Compatibility with Bluetooth keyboards. AccessNote is optimized for
efficiency with the Apple Wireless Keyboard and for today's wireless braille
displays.

AccessNote was developed in conjunction with FloCo Apps and is available on
the App Store(sm).

[Mobile.AI] Scanthing - the new OCR app for Android

2012-12-11 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
Hello,

I was excited to read the reviews of this new app released recently. I
purchased it and have tested it on my S3.

The price is rs. 275.

My suggestion is that you don't buy this yet.

It gave me good results for one document but it failed miserably for the
rest. And it does not have the all important feature of guiding the blind to
take the picture.

Now that I have spent the money I will test it more and if I am lucky I will
let you know.

Prashant

Re: [Mobile.AI] regarding amdroid 4.1 jelly bean

2012-12-03 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
Hello,
I have a S3 and I have also upgraded to Jelly bean.
I am able to locate Explore by touch in Settings Accessibility Talkback
 settings.

In jelly bean it is now possible to use gestures to explore the screen in
addition to sliding the finger over the screen to find items.
Like in iPhone up/down/right/left flicks move the cursor and the highlighted
item is spoken.
Double tap opens the last spoken item.

Prashant
