Dear members, After doing all types of hair-splitting for about 15 months, , I
finally bought a new mobile. I purchased Moto x, it is not available anywhere
in shops, and you have to purchase it only on line. but right now, I am totally
ignorant about its using techniques. Now I want to have actual practical
training and not just theory. Can you guide me from the beginning? Can anybody
provide me tutorials regarding the use of Android? please provide

I am also facing the same problem with touch screen. So, still I am carrying
my old phone for the urgent calling purpose. Now here is raining season, I
can not dial in touch screens easily. I have to hold umbrella in one hand
and also the both hands may be in wet condition. However, I am enjoying the
smart phone features of my phone very much. Instead of external keyboard, my
openion that the product should be equipped with a physical keypad on the
screen cover. Friends, how do you manage such situations with touch screen
phones? I would like to know your experiences.

you are right sir. still I like to use nokia symbian. I am not satisfy
whith touch screen mobile. Its simply waste our time. So, for basic
usage, use any external keyboard for your android touch screen.

No android phone with physical keypad. You will have to keep with
touchscreen only. Otherwise you will have to remain stick with very
basic model which are not durable and not with latest android.

Dear Friends,

I have a strange problem: I am using Moto E with 4.4.4 Android. I
had the phone app in the docks. Somehow it got onto one of the
homescreens and now it is concealed. If I search it through google
search, I can find it but cannot get it back. Also, in the list of
apps, I can only see the apps till the letter D. What do I do to get
my phone app back?

Thank you.

With best wishes,

Ketan

Hello all,
as many of us are aware that recently google has updated its TTS app
and with other things support for Japanese language has been added.
keeping this in view, i'm of the view that we should request google to
add support for Hindi in near future. I've written the same in the
review of the app on google play store. here I would like to know what
other members think in this regard.

For granularity, swipe up then right. you will hear, touch the screan
on the centre and explore in a circle. while exploring, you will get
the granularity options.

Subject: [Mobile.AI] my views on Simpleye.

Hello all, greetings of the day.
A few days back we were eagerly waiting for the launch of a new
accessibility app which was supposed to become an alternative way of
typing on Android devices for the visually impaired people. I have
tried this app a little and here are my views on it:
It is a launcher app with limited functions. we can just dial and
receive calls, send messages, go through some news articles, listen to
music, create voice and text notes and use clock and calculator
functions. as far as launcher is concerned, i'm not in favour of using
this type of launchers because of their limited utility. I prefer a
main stream launcher with accessibility features.
the most important and promising feature of the app is its Braille
keyboard. the layout of the keypad is similar to a cell of a braille
writing device containing six dots. the screen is divided into six
blocks representing six dots, three on left and the other three on the
right side of the screen. we have to slide our finger on these blocks
to write a character, swipe right and hold with two fingers to add a
space and swipe left and hold with two fingers to delete previous
character. we can swipe down and hold with two fingers to listen to
typed text. as far as the layout of the keyboard is concerned, I liked
it more than the recently launched app: "MBraille."
but, there are many areas where the developers of the app will have to
work hard. a few of these are:
1. the app launches automatically even after exiting it. so we have
two options if we don't want to use the app for a while, either to
force stop or uninstall it.
2. At present we can not copy the text we type using the braille
keyboard. "MBraille" provides this facility. in "mBraille" the typed
text automatically gets copyed on the clipboard, as soon as we switch
to another app. I am hopeful that "simpleye" creators will add this
feature in future versions. without the ability to copy the typed text
the app doesn't fulfill its purpose.
3. The devs of the app should develop the braille keyboard separately
as an alternate to the google keyboard and there should be an option
to select it as default keyboard.
4. the jestures to add a space or delete previous character are time
consuming and works like a spead breaker.
5. there should be a jesture to delete previous word.
6. the app currently speaks the characters only as we type. it should
also speak the word after adding the space.
7. the jesture for exiting the keyboard should be changed to double
tap and hold because the current jesture (single tap and hold)
sometimes gets performed unintentionally.
so these are my suggestions to the Kriyate team if they are on the
list.list members are also requested to express their views . our
feedback will help the devs to develop the app.

Hello,
i've installed MBraille and typing this message using it. Its really nice
app. With little practice we can type very fast. It supports contracted
braille. As soon as we switch to another app the typed text gets copyed to
the clipboard. We can also send sms, tweets and mails using the various
commands.
it costs Rs. 77 per month or around rupees 2000 onetime.

Subject: [Mobile.AI] Announcement of Progress Bar Updates by Talkback (in near
stock Android 4.4.4)

Dear all,
While downloading an app from the Playstore (the app was Whatsapp), I
was quite confused, and wasn't sure if the download was in progress or
not, in the beginning I did find the progress bar by touch
exploration, but then lost that. I wouldn't have fallen in this
situation if Talkback would have automatically announced the progress
bar updates, assuring me that the download was in progress.
Is there any setting (I doubt there is any) that will make Talkback
automatically announce progress bar updates, and beep for progress bar
updates?
If this feature is not yet present, then is there any ticket filed on
the Eyes Free issue tracker for the same, so I can vote for that?
I would appreciate any assistance
Best Regards
Bhavya Shah

Subject: [Mobile.AI] My experience with "MBraille".

Hello list, greetings of the day.
I've been using "MBraille" for a week or so and now i find myself quite
comfortable in typing on vertual braille keyboard.
So i am going to share my experience with this app with the list. This
breif description will be helpful for other list members. I am also sharing
my prefered setting with the request to suggest alternate setting
options if possible.

Description of various setting options in MBraille:
in MBraille, there are 12 options in setting menu. I'm going to describe
each of these briefly.
1. Tutorial mode: beginners should keep this option on. if tutorial
mode is on we can explore the layout by sliding our finger on the
screen. we are required to type letters "L" and "W" to begin typing
text. when we are familiar with the layout we can switch the tutorial
mode off.
2. Keyboard layout: there are 3 options under this menu --1. Horizontal
layout like perkins brailler, 2. Grid layout and auto keyboard layout.
Double tap to circle through the options. Select horizontal for tabs and
grid for phones.
3. Keys are switched or not switched in grid layout: here one can swap dots
1 and 3 and dots 4 and 6 in grid layout. my preferred setting is "dots
are not switched in grid layout". with this choice I can hold my moto
e phone between both palms with screen facing awayfrom me. in this
posision the USB charging port will be on the left side and I can
press dots 1, 2 and three with left hand index, middle and ring
fingers respectively and dots 4, 5 and 6 with right hand index, middle
and ring fingers respectively.the use of fingers for pressing dots is
similar to perkins brailler layout.
4. Lock the keyboard in landscape or portrat mode: as per user preference
one can lock the keyboard. my preferred choice is landscape.
5. Swipe sensitivity: there are 3 options --high, mediam and low. I prefer high.
6. Contracted braille: there are two options -- on and off. I prefer
contracted braille on.we can switch

Dear all,
I require a good e-mail client for Android.
The in-built GMail app isn't really great, for e.g. Google TTS,
particularly in the GMail, is terribly unresponsive.
So, till what I have heard, K9 Mail and Aqua Mail is popular among
people, at least Talkback users.
Which of the two would you recommend to me?
I would appreciate any assistance

But I don't understand what is the need to delete the list of the recent
apps? the list of the recent apps does not mean they are opened in the
background, rather it just gives us the list of the apps which we have used
since the start up of our device. If you really want to look at the apps
running in the background, go to settings>apps>Running, where it also shows
how much RAM is consumed and the amount of RAM that is free. At least in
Android 4.2.1, that is what I'm having.

Open recent apps and swipe with 2 fingers from left to right on the lower
part of the screen like you're sweeping the floor, it'll delete one app in
one go but you can do it with a good speed.

Subject: [Mobile.AI] Apple's new iOS 7 software released next week is 'like
getting a new handset'

Why you don't need to buy a new iPhone: Apple's iOS 7 software
launching next week is 'like getting a new handset', claim pundits
•Airdrop feature shares photos, videos and contacts at the press of a button
•Control Centre mimics Android's menu bar giving fast access to settings
•Photos are organised by time and location to make them easier to find
•Stored card details and passwords are filled into forms automatically

Among the reaction and criticism of Apple's latest iPhone event, one
feature that many experts agree on is that its upcoming iOS 7 software
is a game changer - in the way it looks and the way its new features
will 'revitalise' older models.

Current iPhone 5 and 4 owners, plus people with the iPad 2 and iPad
Mini, can get the new software from 18 September, which means all
devices released since 2010 will benefit from the release.

The software has been in beta since Brit designer Sir Jonathan Ive
unveiled its flatter look in June, and despite the visual changes
being initially met with hostility, experts who have installed and
used the operating system have been raving about it, with one classing
it as 'incredible.'

lets users share photos, video and contacts simply by clicking share
and selecting a fellow iOS 7 user from a contacts list. A similar
feature is already available for Mac computers

Michael Liedtke from Associated Press said: 'One of the best things
about Apple's latest iPhones is the slick new iOS 7 software that runs
the devices.

'But that souped-up operating system could end up hurting sales
because the free software upgrade will also work on iPhones released
since 2010, giving owners of the older models less incentive to buy
Apple's newest products.'

He continues that even Apple's software boss, Craig Federighi predicts
that anyone installing iOS 7 will feel 'like they're getting an
all-new device.'

James Chandler, head of mobile at media agency Mindshare UK told
MailOnline: 'I've had iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 for the last three months
and have to say that it's incredible - it is literally like getting a
whole new device.

'Airdrop, quick access menu and the way photos are organised by
location, event and time make for a brilliant new user experience.'

the 'home' button and swiping up in iOS 7

Airdrop is a brand new feature to iPhone that lets users share photos,
video and contacts simply by clicking share and selecting a fellow iOS
7 user from a contacts list.

A similar feature is already available for Mac computers.

All transfers are encrypted and items can be sent using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

The quick access menu is called the Notification Centre and it has
been revamped to show the most relevant information.

It shows new mail, missed calls and other notifications, but iOS 7
additionally has a feature called Today that gives an at-a-glance look
at the day ahead. The menu can also now be opened while the screen is
locked.

It shows live weather and traffic information, for example, updated in
real-time as well as birthdays or upcoming events.

In addition to the Notification Centre, iOS 7 has a Control Centre
that can be opened by swiping from the bottom of the screen and lets
the user quickly access the Wi-Fi and network mode settings, change
the screen's brightness and play or stop music.

The Control Centre looks similar to the Notification Menu on the
latest versions of Android Jelly Bean.

Individual apps can also be controlled and closed by double-clicking
the 'home' button and swiping up in iOS 7.

Apple's updated photo feature has added Years, Collections, and
Moments that groups images and videos together based on when and where
they were taken.

When taking shots, budding photographers can also now focus using the
volume down key on the side of the handset, while the volume up button
takes the picture.

If the new iPhone Mini launches as expected it will more than likely
run Apple's latest mobile software - iOS 7.

Subject: [Mobile.AI] changing mails delivery from digest to single or single to
digest mode Re: About digest mail

hello all,
am writing in response of a querey on the list regarding changing
the way of email deliveries on accessindia mailing list e.g digest
mail or single emails as they are sent to the list.
anyone who wishes to change the way list emails delivers to them,
please follow the given procedure below.
firstly, to make any changes, visit www.accessindia.org.in for
accessindia mailing list or
http://accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in
for mobile.accessindia mailing list.
please note, you can find these links in footter of every
accessindia or mobile.accessindia emails aswel.
once you open this page, look for unsubscribe or editoptions button –
dont worry you wont get unsubscribe by this. it is just to get thee
access of login page.
once you are in, give your email id and password for the mailing
list. this passsword will be different from your actual email
password unless you havent set thee same password by chanse so dont
be confused here.
if you dont know your passsword that is quite possible, give your
email id and under the password reminder heading, hit the remind
button.
an email containing your current password will be sent to the given
email address.
next, login with the email and the the password you received on the
same page.
now there many options that can be changed, but for the time being,
there some of those we might like to change.
the first comes mail delivery where you can set whether to receive
the mails from the list or not. heere is a feature where you can turn
off mails delivery without unsubscribing the list. by default it is
enable. mean you want to receive the mails from the mailing list.

dont disable it if you want to keep receiving mails from the
mailing listss. if you tick set globally checkbox, the action will
be applied to the both mailing lists in 1 go!
second option comes set digest mode thatt was the actual querey, there
are 2 radio buttons under this section. choosing the on radio
button mean you want to receive the mails as digestmode.
choos off radio button if you want to receive the every single mail
from the list. if you have made changes recently, you might need
to wait for some time while changes take effect.
lastly, dont forget to click submit changes button and logout button finally.
hope this helps.
thank you, member – access india mentors team.

first of all thank you sir for starting this useful discussion.
I had same issues when i was thinking to buy an android device. And i
have bored our friends like anything with my childish questions.
This is not only yours problem. Even i was afraid to touch screen when
i can work on any mobile without any screen reader. I have seen many
sighted who do not want to use touch screen phone.
But in our case as you said we do not have any option. So accept this
reality of touch screen.
I am using xolo q700 from 10 days, and believe me it is not as tough
as i thought.
I agree that without sight it is tough to operate but possibilities are there.
So happy learning.

many of us are afraid from touch screen because mobile is an important
part of our life. It is not just for calling or sms.
Today or tomorro we will have to switch to touch screen phones that is
true. But what about speed? I phones are good in terms of
accessibility as i have also heard. But they are costlier. And i have
always found the discussion of android confusing.
I can type on qwerty as good as sighted person. I can type on laptop
as well. But i do not think i will be able to use touch screen phone
with that much confidence. This is my fear.
Even at this time i am chatting on whats app while typing this mail. I
think thats why we are crying for nokia.
I may sound psyco but i strongly believe that the golden days of
mobile using are over in our case.

I have been considering buying a tab for my workplace uses as it is
easier to carry it rather than a laptop, and the netbook has already
become yesterday's product. And If I buy a tab, I want to opt for the
Google Nexus itself. So thanks a lot for posting this. I have a few
questions though. How accessible it is with office products?
Basically, I have a lot of work on MS Word and PDF related stuff. Are
there accessible apps that can read and edit word and pdf documents?
There other question is how good is an Android tab as a reader? I use
Kurzweil1000 as my primary reader and also use Jaws. In what format
can I access my .kes files on an Android tab? How customizable is the
reading experience? Can we set bookmarks and stuff? Is it possible to
pause and resume reading on a tab? I am OK with touchscreen typing on
an Android phone, but can I use a Bluetooth keyboard on an Android
tab? Or Is it better to stick to the yesterday's product for now?

Friends,
I wish to share a small good news with all of you about a success, I
achieved after long pursuance and following up the matter with the company.
Finally Airtel has removed the captcha code from it's website, earlier needed
for online mobile recharge, now we can recharge our prepaid mobile phone
numbers without any sighted assistance.
Best,

Dear brother,
Here are the steps for online Airtel prepaid mobile recharge:
Log in to the website www.airtel.in,
bring links list by insert f7 and press r which takes you to recharge
link, press enter on it, in the next page,
go to first edit field by pressing f, key in your 10 digit mobile
number, in the 2nd field key in your e-mail id, which is optional,
select your recharge plan from either exclusive web offer or your circle
recharge by ticking the appropriate check box,
then select recharge category like 2g recharge, 3g recharge, full talk
time etc. by ticking the appropriate check box,
in the next field, select the recharge amount for the selected category
and
then click on proceed button, which would in the next page show your
selected details, then click on confirm button, which will take you to the
next page, where you can make payment by net banking, choose your bank from
the available list from the drop down menue and click on pay now button,
which would land you to your bank's website, key in your login id and
password and complete the transaction, that's it.
Warm regards,
Manoj
