>> 1. sloan-navy blues
>what are these guys like?
i used to only have their albums "smeared", and "twice removed" and i
thought they were crap and i sold 'em. but i listened to navy blues once
and i was immediately hooked. it's very retro rock, and music critics
probably name 50 bands they think they're ripping offbut i think it's
great. very poppy stadium rock that will leave you humming long after the
album has ended. since then i bought their album "one chord to another"
which i had heard was their best, and it comes in a close second to "navy
blues." people always tell me that if i like stuff like sloan i should like
cheap trick and all these amazing bands that groups like sloan were
obviously influenced by, but rarely do i like any of these classic rock
bands half as much. i don't know if i'm the only one who thinks like this.
bands like the rolling stones, and led zeppelin can kiss my arse for all i
care. i do, however, really care for the beach boys and the beatlesbut
their albums don't speak to me as well as ones by my contemporaries.
>> 2. masters of the hemisphere-s/t
>please explain
the masters are from athens, GA. a fine young bunch of lads that go to
university of georgia that play music not unlike many of the elephant six
collective. songs based on harmony and catchiness with lots of instruments
used. i'm sure if kindercore didn't pick em up, elephant six would have.
this album has 8 songs on it, all of which are marvelous.
>where did you find out about the lucksmiths? I thought only us
>australians knew about them. Their previous stuff is way better: What
>bird is that? and Boondoggle are the best.
how could you not hear about the lucksmiths? they just finished their world
tour, in which they played with Belle and Sebastian in france and amsterdam.
i like their earlier albums as well but i think their latest is the most
well rounded. every song is ace, except for maybe train robbers wives. i
hear that the other candle records artists are swell as well, maybe you
could make me an aussie mix tape?
>>Field Mice
>this is a compilation of all(?) the field mice recordings. they are a sarah
>records band, perhaps THE sarah records band. Nice little bedroom pop-they
>meant a lot to thirty people(myself included) back around the turn of the
>decade. if you like K records bands, you will like the Field Mice.
i think i would preface this with, if you like old K records bands you will
probably like the field mice. K records hasn't put out any really good pop
in a while. i would say that if you were a fan of 80's new waveand
current new wave bands like they go boom! and future bible heroes you will
like the field mice
you can hear sound files for all these bands at http://www.pal-mailorder.com
