[MMouse]: carried away

1999-06-01 Thread Javag369

i feel like this built to spill thing is a little carried away...especially
when people start attacking doug martsch-i have a lot of respect for him.
he's been a great artist for quite awhile now and he's got a son and he's
done this crazy tour-i saw them twice in tempe recently...maybe four months
between each show. and that's really nice because it's not like tempe is new
york la or seattle, you know? all albums by every band have good and bad
things about them. it's just like taking a collection of a painter or
photograper's work-some of it would be good, some not as good. of course,
sometimes, nothing's good for awhile. but that doens't seem to happen with
most excellent artists-like built to spill. that's all i have to say. work
wore me out. no insomnia tonight, i hope. my love to you all-kirstin.

Fuck. Some people need to calm down. A trite piece of crap? How about
you take someone else's lyrics, write a song half as good as "you were
right," and get back to me. What's irrelevant to the fact that Doug
lifted old lyrics is that the song still displays the genius Doug has
has for a great melody, his wailing vocals that characterize them so
well, and the layered spacy guitars that so many built to spill fans
love. ryan

which one was that by chance?... just curious, i didnt even know they played
the conan show but im not much of a late night talk show person anyway...i
personally like keep it like a secret.. and actually i turned a few people
onto built to spill by playing that record, and they went totally nuts for
it.. so maybe if one were to introduce them to something like "perfect from
now on" they might not be able to handle it... like all things, it all
depends on yr perspective i suppose...

Ok other than the fact that I think weve already had this debate like four
times since I've signed on to this mailing list I still feel the need to
contribute…Ultimate alternative wavers is their best album by a lot,(I hate
trying to figure out what album people are talking about with those stupid
acronyms…) it’s the perfect garage rock album…slacker revolution, little kids in
gasoline car puddles, and a jab at reality as soon as you turn on the
stereo..its priceless..Keep it like a secret was just bleck..and the fact that
they played the WORST SONG they have and hopefull will ever record on Conan
O’Brien just pisses me off to no end..that song is such a trite piece of
crap..but I digress..dug is still great, though money has made him lazy

How do you know if you've got the extra song on your disc? After "Broken
Chairs" my CD spins on and on, but after like 20 minutes of that, I just
lose patience... and I don't think there's anything there. I wanna hear it.

a couple of weeks ago. 2 of my fave albums yet when i saw Built to Spill in
Chicago they only played one song that I knew! geez. Next time i go to a show
im making sure to be up to date with all the albums.

who are you to say that money has made him lazy (who am i to say that it
hasn't)? -- that's a pretty big statement to make, especially about someone
that i'm guessing you don't know.. from what i've gathered he's about the
last person to be affected by money... maybe he's become lazy (i dunno what
leads you to believe he's lazy) but i feel pretty safe in saying that it's
not because of money

also, i think time trap is one of bts' best songs... it's good for so many
reasons -- i can see why you see it as trite, but that's why i think it's so
brilliant.. obviously the song is doing more than just blatantly repeating
lyrics of classic rock songs -- it accomplishes so much and i think
there's sooo much behind it.. it tears me up every time i listen to it

having not watched t.v. in ages, i am curious as to which song was played on
Conan O'Brien that you are referring to (as their WORST SONG). I assume
you're probably talking about something off 'Keep It Like A Secret' however i
was wondering which song?

i don't like 'keep it like a secret' as well either, however i'm not really
convinced that money or laziness has much to do with the digression

[MMouse]: the built to spill debate

1999-06-01 Thread Javag369

the built to spill debate is kinda silly, everyone seems to agree that they
create beautiful music. (i'm really happy everyone likes them-they're one of
my faves!) a person's favorite album has a lot to do with what was going on
in their life at the time the album came out. i have some of my best
memories connected to the new one, so i am slightly partial to it, but i also
hold perfect and love right up there and normal has a couple songs i adore,
so i think the comment about their masterpieces being song by song, not
album by album was nice. i hope all of your lives are good today!

in well with the PFNO sound.
