if you haven't ever gotten to see sonic youth, go see sonic youth. if you
have seen sonic youth a lot of times before and aren't THAT thrilled, go
see dc4c. if you've seen death cab for cutie a lot and haven't seen sonic

i agree. but i think saying "they may be the most overrated band indie rawk

[MMouse]: Austin show--I just won't give up

2000-06-29 Thread Toni Rickman

Ok. No one would answer my pleas for a video of the Austin show. I just
have a hard time believing no one on this list knows where to get one.
Anyway, what about just a plain old recording of it? Zach gave me a copy of
his, which is bad ass, but I can't hear the words on All Night Diner, Tiny
Cities and Other People's Lives. I was wondering if someone had a copy
where these songs were pretty clear. I know the vocal quality sucked at
Stubbs, but it's driving me crazy. Isaac made up a lot of new words on
these, and I really want to know what they were. Someone please help me,
and I promise it will be the last time I post about this show. I'm also
looking for ANY videos/recordings of any bad ass shows. Will work out a
trade.

thanks, toni

Yikes, I'm almost on the plane in a few hours... headed to uncharted
territories of swimming pools and movie stars...

I will see all you fine kids at the picnic I hope. Look on my web page and
you will see I am an average white guy who will be wearing bright blue and
orange etonic running shoes and probably a red MM buffalo t-shirt. I'll
have a short girl and a tall big guy with me who might look like elvis if
you were blinded by alcohol poisoning.

I also am shooting to go to that all nite bowling alley, the nova express
(for shakes!), and shopping around the area you guys told me about.

Thanks again everyone! Hope to see you all there.

Everyone cross their fingers that the Mouse pulls out all stops at the
show..

Also cross their fingers that I get all my recording equipment in to the
show...

Also cross their fingers I don't end up hanging out with Nate Dog g in South
Central.

Oh yeah, and cross your fingers that BTS plays Virginia Reel Around the
fountain, and that Calvin Johnson is there and brings Nichole and she sings
Interstate 8 with the Mouse.

[MMouse]: danielewski and THIS AINT NO PICNIC

2000-06-29 Thread Taylor Antrim

yeah, i read House of Leaves and kinda dug
it.  It's overlong, overwritten, has possibly one too many self-indulgent
spots, but if you get all the way to the end it actually works really well, is
kind of moving, etc.  Danielewski isn't much of a writer; he's more of an
experiment guy, i.e. there are more cool ideas than cool sentences in the
book.  saw him read here in SF.  Freak.  for sure.

and for those going to this ain't no picnic,
beware smuggling stuff in.  last year they searched everyone's bags really
thoroughly.  we had a bag of weed buried at the bottom of our bag and it
was shear dumb luck that they missed it.  these dudes were on a
mission.

[MMouse]: new records

2000-06-29 Thread Zach Kuhn

hot damn.

If you have the chance, go see jets to brazil on their
short u.s tour. Absolutely the best live show I've
seen in months.
Finally a record that I've waited for has pulled
through, the new jets is everything it should be and
more. There are no skippers, and I've played it for a
lot of people (even professed jawbreaker lovers, jets
haters) and not one bad comment yet.

Also good:

lifter puller: fiestas and fiascos-- reminds me of
the urgency and sense of fun that the mouse used to
have, the best record about drugs since I don't know
when. Sounds between les savy fav and the mouse and
jets to brazil. but completely original. god damn.

Joseph Arthur: come to where I'm from

Camden: reel time canvas
Mt.st.helens: on time, always
Bloodshot records 5 year anniversary record
Jeff Buckley- mystery white boy
aloha- thats your fire (big ups to steve for
recommending this one, haven't heard anything like
this in a while)
