[MMouse]: pink pink pink...pink moon
thats nick drake being played out of the car full of hipsters in the vw cabrio commercial...its called *pink moon*...pretty, huh? yea...you should pick up *way to blue - an introduction to nick drake* or *bryter lyter.* too bad he isnt alive anymore. xo
[MMouse]: saw the future once, i was drunk in a phone booth
yea...looper were also played in an espn commercial that ran for a bit this past summer. espn...looper...espn...looper. weird. so anyway. xo
[MMouse]: nothing about the most modest of mouses, something about thebrightest of eyes.
i just thought some of you might like to know that bright eyes will be playing a show in iowa city on the night of january 6th at gabes... another in chicago on the night of january 7th at schubas. ...enjoy... xo arctic c np: catpower /// nude as the news/schizophrenia's weighted me down 7"
[MMouse]: gonna speed through the night.
my bit on the names in songs stuff...jeremy engick "abigail anne" / pulp beck "deborah" / high lamas "janet jangle" / belle sebastian "string bean jean" judy the dream of horses" "lazy line painter jane" "photo jenny / yo la tengo "pablo andrea" "lewis" ...hmm, i know there are more, but ill stop short. now, about bedhead...i have no idea what is going on with any of the members now (since the mailing list is virtually dead)...but i do know that if any of you have the recording of a pre-bedhead band called johnny (i cant remember what the other word is) ...i would trade anything out of my collection for a copy of it. xo carrie (why arent there any carrie songs? all i get is a really bad book, a mediocre horror movie, a lotta jokes about pig's blood as a result of both. sissy spacek plays me. blah.)
[MMouse]: blocking.
ok. general question...does anyone know how/if i can block posts from specific email addresses if i am on the digest version? please. help. gh. *xo ///how they jump, they move, they embarass///
[MMouse]: nothing but a part of the problem.
okay. why cant we all just realize that some people are gonna like stuff that you dont... vice versa. havent we had enough of this yet? ya. so kiss make up damnit. on a new note...does anyone on here listen to wheat? if so...have you heard the new album yet? cos i just ordered it from insound (they even throw in a free wheat lighter!) i was wondering if it sounds anything at all like medeiros... *xo cb
[MMouse]: everything is nice when its cheap.
thats weird...i found mine for 9.98...at a record store that likes to jack prices on new albums. kinda sucks that you hadta pay twelve dollarsoh well. its still a really great comp. who knew that matador actually put out GOOD hip hop? not me, at least. by the way...im missing my daily dose of this list...why is everyone so quiet? *xo carrie (ps...stereolab dates have been announced! on 12/6 its chicago or bust)
[MMouse]: mercury rev other things...
strange that you thought the song might be by the flaming lips...cos one of the guys from mercury rev actually produced the flaming lips new album. i dunno, it struck me as odd at least. just wondering...anyone else on this list from the missouri/oklahoma area? ...and to start some conversation, whats the best show youve ever seen? *xo the endless chain reaction
[MMouse]: a sad disco.
to star who asked if anyone liked any of the stuff he mentioned...ive been in love with richard buckner ever since i saw him play an in store performance here in st louis...and fuck just blow me away. and besides...*pretty slow* came with a coloring book and sweet tarts and other toys. how cool is that? as far as the sad songs go...*the rest of the day* *lepidoptera* by bedhead can make me curl up and cry like a baby. actually...pretty much anything by bedhead can do that. low, cat power, ylt, mogwai also have the same effects sometimes. and whoever said the thing about nmh's *two headed boy pt. 2*...yer not alone. *fox in the snow* by belle sebastian can really get to me too if im listening to it at the right time. hmm...and *rocky racoon* by the beatles is the saddest story ever. yeah...so theres lots more but i should stop now. *xo carrie
[MMouse]: the second sad disco.
yeah...and im sorry for posting again...but i hadta add wheat's album *medeiros* to my list of lovelorn/painful music...anyone else into these guys? wow. thats all i can say. umm, and dump's *a plea for tenderness* is a great heartbreak album. mmm...and i cant mention those without mentioning the magnetic fields...stephen merritt writes the saddest words...and hides them in bounce-able melodies. yum. *sigh...maybe i should quit with all this sad stuff...coming soon: my post of happy songs. *xo carrie
[MMouse]: eyes wide shut. grrr
yeah...i saw eyes wide shut last friday...and i personally thought it was a terrible mistake. it bored me, it annoyed me, and it dissappointed me in a really big way. what the hell happened? i guess thats what you get when you try to cast tom cruise and nicole kidman. pee wee herman's little spot as the hotel desk clerk did cheer me up a bit, however...and the lighting was amazing, if you wanna get into the technical stuff. as for the theme...hmm, sex? fantasy? jealousy? god, i dont know...but it certainly did not live up to my expectations of stanley kubrick. good luck not falling asleep if you decide to see it anyway... id like to hear what anyone else thought... *xo carrie

[MMouse]: black 3
i think ive posted about black heart procession on this list before...anyway, you really should see them (especially if red stars theory and 764 are playing too)...the only way i can really describe them is beautiful and eerie. the best part is the singing saw...so amazing. if you like three mile pilot or clikitat ikatowi...its the same guy with a different band. dont miss it. *carrie
[MMouse]: bedhead
yes...bedhead broke up...and before i had the chance to see them. *sigh i saw the olivia tremor control with the music tapes last night...oh my gawd...i am still in awe. go see em if you get the chance... *carrie
[MMouse]: lame attempt at conversation...
so umm...since nobody is really talking...i thought id ask if anyone else is excited about the new pavement album...or the rerelease of belle sebastian's *tigermilk* ...cos i know i sure am...umm...six p.m. and all is quiet on the western front. *carrie
[MMouse]: argh.
everyone- first of all, to anyone who considers what i am about to say as irrational/silly/uncalled for...i would be happy to let you take over the tape by yourself. now, the news...i have done a lot of thinking/worrying/inquiring in the past week and i have come to a sad conclusion. i have decided to put my work on the tape on hold until i learn the truth about whether or not the rape charges against isaac are false. i know the money lies on all of this shit just being a fleeting rumor...but i am not about to put hours of work into paying tribute to modest mouse if the rumors are true. i am deeply sorry, but these are my honest feelings. so...either the rumor gets cleared up, or someone else takes over. its up to the people with the knowledge. *carrie
[MMouse]: limits/deadline/help!
alright...ive gotten more than twenty emails from kids saying they wanna contribute to the tape. i think that we need to make a cut-off point...otherwise theres not gonna be enough room on the tapes. and are we setting a deadline for when all of the tapes need to be sent? i also think that there should be a few more people dubbing and sending the tapes...cos, being a full time college student, i dont have the time to record and send fifty+ tapes. any volunteers? *carrie
[MMouse]: erk.
alright...there is some definite confusion going on with this tribute tape of ours. first of all, i do agree with bruce that a "tape trade" would be the smartest way to go, meaning that the individual tapes would be sent to me, and i would then dub the songs onto a tape. then, i would send that tape to the next person who wants it, and they would dub and send it on to the next person...etc, you get the point. yeah, the sound quality will be pretty nasty, but i dont think anyone is expecting it to be crystal clear. secondly, this is an excerpt from an email that i recieved today... "Hi, my name is Dave from Signal to Noise Records. A small but reputable company out of College Park, MD...Have you covered your ass legally? How many are going to be printed? What kind of distro., etc? Please get back to me a.s.a.p." ...i wrote the guy back saying that he was probably making it into a bigger thing than we want it to be...but should we be worried about any of this shit? finally, i think that repetitions would be a nice thing for this tape...that way, every one is happy cos they can do the song(s) they wish without having to "call their song" first...and obviously, it would expose us to different interpretations. (sorry bout the length of this) *carrie
[MMouse]: =tape=
another idea on the dubbing and sending of tapes...heres an excerpt from an email that [EMAIL PROTECTED] sent me: "what's worked in the past is where one person volunteers to do all the dubbing, and you send that person either a blank tape or a few bucks for the tape, plus postage. no one is making any money, but everyone gets their tape in a timely fashion." sound good to everybody? im ready to do all the dubbing and sending if everyone else wants take that route *carrie
[MMouse]: Re: Digest modestmouse.v001.n279
okay, to the kid with the turntables...i was just thinking tonite of asking if anyone wanted to do a remix of sorts...and there you are. i think a collage of songs could be really great. another tape note...bruce willen has put up a lil something on his website asking for contributions to the tape...if anybody else runs a mm website, or just has friends that make music for that matter, please tell em about the tape. as far as the final production and sending of tapes thing goes...do we want to produce the compilation as cds or tapes? and if you want cds...should the individual tapes be sent to the kid with the cd burner? ...or should i mix it onto a tape first and then send it to him to burn into cds? *carrie
[MMouse]: improving.
oookay...another lil update on the tape thing: i have heard from kids that are interested in doing *bankrupt on selling* * broke* *whenever i breathe out...* *dukes up* and something on a casiotone (nice!). ive been talking to the boy that wants to burn the cds (brian_eck@yahoo) and he thinks that the cost with production and everything would be bout four bucks each. as far as the whos gonna do which song thing goes...i dont really think it matters. does anyone else have an opinion as to whether songs should be repeated or not? *carrie
[MMouse]: possible.
okay. so far...i have heard from two people that wanna contribute to the tape...the songs being *bankrupt on selling* and *grey icewater*...and one boy who has kindly offered to convert the tape onto cds with a cd burner. we need more. more. more. if this thing is gonna get anywhere... *carrie
[MMouse]: nothin like fuck for christmas.
...mmm. fuck are really great. star, did yer copy of pretty...slow come in a really pretty little hand colored cardboard box with sweet tarts crayons a coloring book some other stuff? that was the best surprise ever. funny story though, i took the album with me to dc to visit my boyfriends parents last christmas... i accidentally left the box on top of the gift that i was gonna give to his mom... like his whole family was sitting in the living room while she opened the bag... she pulls out the box... goes "fuck, pretty slow?...wow...carrie, this is...err, really sweet of you? oh, theres a nice picture frame in here too." umm. yeah. it was pretty awful embarrassing. xo cb.
