[MMouse]: eyes wide shut
I thought the movie was absolutely brilliant. I have come to understand I am in the minority, which is okay. However during the movie there was alot of sighing and complaning from the audience which disturbed my viewing. Anyway, I think alot of people made quick judgements without allowing the film to take them where it was going. There are many things in the film which are just plain stupid all by their lonesome, but they all add up to..well, it's just brilliant. I must also say Nicole Kidman has an incredibly beautiful body. Yeah and Modest Mouse Rules! Jessica
[MMouse]: Eyes Wide Shut
I thought the film was just "ok" until I began analyzing it with friends for the next four days. Now I think it is a subtle work of superb talent. I really took a lot away from that film, but it took a few hours of discussion to make me realize it. I don't want to get into my theories as to the theme or purpose of the film, but I feel comfortable saying that the film is about how different people look at the concept of infidelity and how they react to the notion of it, yet the film is also about power - the power women can wield over men by virtue of their charm and beauty, or the power that men can wield over women, or the power that money can hold over both. I really think the film speaks volumes. I also think that the film is comparable to The Shining in its drawn-out and deliberate dialogue, as well as the slow, sweeping camera work. The grainy stock gave the film a dream-like quality. I remember reading an essay on The Shining (it's on the net somewhere) where they discuss the possibility that Kubrick had created a modern day silent film with his work on The Shining. The dialogue is slow enough that you can easily read lips, but even then most of the body language tells you what is going on long before the words are heard. And again, the long sequences of uncut shots pull the film along, almost drawing it out longer than it has to be. But the purpose of film isn't just to tell a story, it's the manner in which the story is told, I think. So anyway, for further discussion, e-mail me privately. I'll tell you my other revelations regarding this film. *phiL* ___ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com

hmm. eyes wide shut-- it was sooo long and so boring, but i was told i just wasn't smart enough, that there's a lot of really smart people that like it a lot because there's lots of symbolism... ?? like somebody said that the part where dr. bill is wearing a black cloak and then when he's in that big circle with all the other people being questioned about the password, it's blue, well supposedly that means something i just thought it was the lighting. oh well. so yeah, i wouldn't reccommend it. the pee wee part was awesome, it seemed really out of place though. and there's lots and lots of butt shots. jes _ Do You Yahoo!? [MMouse]: eyes wide shut. grrr
yeah...i saw eyes wide shut last friday...and i personally thought it was a terrible mistake. it bored me, it annoyed me, and it dissappointed me in a really big way. what the hell happened? i guess thats what you get when you try to cast tom cruise and nicole kidman. pee wee herman's little spot as the hotel desk clerk did cheer me up a bit, however...and the lighting was amazing, if you wanna get into the technical stuff. as for the theme...hmm, sex? fantasy? jealousy? god, i dont know...but it certainly did not live up to my expectations of stanley kubrick. good luck not falling asleep if you decide to see it anyway... id like to hear what anyone else thought... *xo carrie
