Again I would submit that you're not listening hard enough.  In my
experience when someone says this about a musician or group of musicians
it is because the person is not familiar with the genre of music.  I know
that its true with me.  For a long time I thought that all hip-hop music
sounded the same but now I realize that my prejudice against hip-hop was
just my own unfamiliarity with the music.

It might also have to do with the fact that Califone's music is more about
subtlety than Modest Mouse's music is.

ok ok the music is very good, and different, but the vocal harmonies and 
what not, they all had nearly the same feeling. Now I liked the way they
sounded, and i was about to run back and pick up the album after the first
half of their set, but the songs were just so similar, that turned me off
