I chmodded 755 directory /var/log/mon, but still it gives me the same

Here is my mon.cf:*

alertdir= /usr/lib/mon/alert.d
mondir  = /usr/lib/mon/mon.d
logdir  = /var/log/mon

dtlogging   = yes
dtlogfile   = /var/log/mon/dtlog
randstart   = 600s

*Could someone take a look at it, and point me in the right direction?
Or could running mon in a virtual machine be the problem, i use vmware
for virtualisation.

thank you,

if ($CF{"DTLOGGING"}) {
if (!open (DTLOGTMP, "<  $CF{DTLOGFILE}")) {
sock_write ($fh, "520 list dtlog error, cannot open dtlog\n");

looks like it couldn't open the dtlog file. does it exist, and is it readable
by the user which is running mon?
