[Mono-list] Mono installation problem

2010-10-03 Thread Ramil

Hello!

Trying to install mono 2.6.7 from tarballs. My system version is:
/usr/bin/file: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for
GNU/Linux 2.6.9, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9,
stripped.
libgdiplus was installed successfully, but only with -Wl,-Bsymbolic values
for ./configure CFLAGS.
But I can't compile mono for a few days!
Configured it:
./configure --prefix=/home/rkuleev/mono --with-profile4=yes
But make returned error:

make[4]: Entering directory `/home/rkuleev/tmp/mono-2.6.7/mcs'
make PROFILE=basic all
make[5]: Entering directory `/home/rkuleev/tmp/mono-2.6.7/mcs'
make[6]: Entering directory `/home/rkuleev/tmp/mono-2.6.7/mcs'
make[6]: mcs: Command not found
make[6]: *** [build/deps/basic-profile-check.exe] Error 127
make[6]: Leaving directory `/home/rkuleev/tmp/mono-2.6.7/mcs'
*** The compiler 'mcs' doesn't appear to be usable.
*** You need a C# 1.0 compiler installed to build MCS (make sure mcs works
from the command line)
*** mcs/gmcs from mono > 2.6 will not work, since they target NET 2.0.
*** Read INSTALL.txt for information on how to bootstrap a Mono
installation.
make[5]: *** [do-profile-check] Error 1
make[5]: Leaving directory `/home/rkuleev/tmp/mono-2.6.7/mcs'
make[4]: *** [profile-do--basic--all] Error 2

Could you help me? Thanks!

Best regards, Ramil Kuleev

[Mono-list] Kickstart with Mono

2010-10-03 Thread Abhishek Sharma
Hello fellow programmers,

I am new to the Mono mailing lists. I have been a self motivated Linux
programmer and user since 3 years and I am a .NET developer in my
profession.

I have had an idea about MONO for quiet sometime now and its in my mind that
I should contribute whatever I can over here.ITs only now that I could
materialise it and so I am writing to the mailing-list.

Ximian took a great step by stepping forward with this idea and under Novell
now as I hear it still grows well. I have browsed throguh some of the code
and documentation. I see lots of Library implementation also needs work and
there is lots to do and I would like to get started.

Due to my tight schedule I would like someone to guide me into areas and
work that needs to be done.

I would highly appreciate if u guys out there could invite me in to get me
started.

Thanks,
Abhishek

Hi,

For starters, you should pick what you want to work on.
You already looked at the sources, so you must have some ideas already, but
if you need some more inspiration, you could check out bugzilla.

Also, have a look at the Mono coding guidelines:

Re: [Mono-list] MonoDroid/MonoTouch for FLOSS/hobby development?

2010-10-03 Thread Daniel Hughes
I to was hoping to create a few open source apps however the $399
would create a large barrier to contributions.

Are there any plans for an alternative licence or product for open
source and hobbyist development.

Cheers,
Daniel Hughes

Re: [Mono-list] MonoDroid/MonoTouch for FLOSS/hobby development?

2010-10-03 Thread ted leslie

I am getting a android phone (Samsung Galaxy S cap.) hopefully, to also toy
with it (mono droid)
I don't have an issue myself paying the 400 beans if I use it anyway
commercially (i.e. generate a
comercial product, or even a fee one tied to a commercial project), but to just
play with it,
learn it, rather not have to drop the 400 at that time. Perhaps at a min. a
crippled free version to build
non-commercial apps? Crippled by, max size of executable? or a tonne of other
ways. Obviously Novell
with benifit by maximum use of it in a completely non-commericial way as
possible, there by ringing
up max. sales when these convert to commercial uses.
