Please can you discover a little patience. The release of mono 1.0 has
received widespread coverage and there is no doubt the servers are
having a little difficulty with the increased load.

sorry miguel, its ever an honnour for me to echange with you, you can find more about
spread project on http://www.spread.org (logical, isnt it ? or google, the first link

its a big project according to its supported by darpa and nsa !
im not very impresive in this subject but as i have understood, something of com+n
can be remmappesd with spread !

one other thing is the ability of a module to do postgrsql replication !

another point, i dont knowx if u have this this next message about corporate usage of
mono, this can encourage you to follow this way ! :

environnmement... and so , to have salary im obliged to use m$ technologies ... that
there which mono come, if mono is able to do the same as m$ .Net, in my opinion many
enterprises will improve free logs! Further the more, mono will profit about *NIX

One exemple is the case of this university which use novell shares!one other is mine

My jo consisted in study the existant (of my enterprise) and try it on mono, testing

because for my perfs results, .Net is behind mono! (is there something wrong, my
results are too good !) These perfs tests consisted on running apllication on windows

so the good point, exploitation easy (nearly just to copy the exe and config file),

The Spread license is very similar to the Apache 1.1 license, which can
be summarized as quot;BSD + advertising clause, quot; so it isn't GPL
 compatible.

This probably isn't an issue, as the Mono class libraries are MIT/X11,
and thus could safely use the Spread code, though it would make
distribution and advertising very annoying and would prevent
 System.Messaging from being Free software

gt; Or we could use the D-BUS (of Project Utopia?
 gt; http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/dbus)... If that lic
 fits.

D-BUS is dual-licensed under the Academic Free License and GPL 2, so it
avoids any advertising issues. (This is from dbus-0.21.tar.gz.)

However, last I knew D-BUS only works locally, and not across hosts,
which makes it of limited use for a general System.Messaging
architecture. Furthermore, it's limited to Unix systems (IIRC), which
 would limit portability to Windows.

Download a mono snapshot from the website, http://www.go-mono.com/daily
. You do *not* want a monocharge or a monolite; you want the mono
package. At the moment, that's mono-0.96.20040614.tar.gz

Use either tar with the zxvf switches or an application like file-roller
 to extract the tarball

open a terminal; cd into the directory you extracted the tarball to

run ./configure, or ./autogen.sh if there's no configure. Make sure all
the dependencies you need are satisfied.

 run make

 run make install

You should now have a mono install in /usr/local. You may need to set
environment variables so it takes precedence over one installed from a
package; the relevant variables are PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, IIRC.

I think fullbuild is obsoleted now (replaced by bootstrap), but in any

mono from cvs, not from snapshots or releases.

 Hi kiorky..

I got my devel environment working here...
I'm getting the same result with latest cvs code of mono...
I think it may be some problem in Npgsql... I'm checking that.

 Thanks in advance...

 Hi Kiorky.

I'm still at my job with no luck getting my dev env working as I'm a
little bit busy here today :(
That's also why I'm only answering now...

When I get home tonight I will have a better look at this. From your
log, data seems to be correctly fetched from server as you get 5 DataRow
 messages.

Problem may be in Fill method itself or NpgsqlDataReader may be throwing
 some exception to Fill method.

If you try your code without the quot;tryquot; statement do you get some
 exception thrown?

 What about gdb mono quot;your application.exequot; ??

 Thanks in advance.

 Hello Kiorky,

I know others in the list already told you this, but please, PLEASE, stop
sending duplicated messages to the list and asking all the time the same
 question.

i have a very buggy webmail, sory , but at work there re firewalls and i cant do
in other way.

Think about the forum as a live repository of problems and solutions: (most)

other people only care about the problem and the solution. If someone ask
you to send more info in private, please do it that way. Messages like
 quot;have
you solved it?quot; add no value.

i do not agree because it can help soemone having the same problem

One piece of advice: if you are using a web-based email service, go to your
inbox folder immediately after sending a message; if you don't do this, your

message will be sent every time the page reloads.

i know and i do this ! but the net is very buggy at enterprise becuase i guess they
dont know how to tune the firewall

Also check your spelling and write properly: that way will be easier for
YES I KNOW THAT I DONT KNOW HOW TO WRITE PROPERLY
other people to find a solution to your problem using search engines.

if i post, it is that its no solutions on google... thanks

Finally, watch your language: it not only makes you look stupid, also some
may find you are disrespectful with them about their work.

maybe because im not english i cant use all the words that i know in my own langage, i
just try to make me understant by the others. If i speak french, how many personn will
respond to me? Sorry, i know english but im not as fluent as i would want to be

Marcus [EMAIL PROTECTED] a écrit :

I recently obtained a copy of the CLI-Grande benchmark suite, which is a port

of Java-Grande. It is available from CVS
 at :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs.
Check out module quot;cli-grandequot;. I wanted
to post the results in case anyone was interested.

I observed that using full optimization (-O=all) with Mono sometimes made
results worse. Also, the Create:Array tests run so much faster with full
optimization that I am not sure how to interpret the results.

Finally, ilrun failed during the Serial:Reading:BinaryTree test, which aborted

the benchmark. So the remaining 4 tests did not run.

Look, I know it can be annoying that bits of the software don't work,
but can you please moderate your language - it makes it far less likely
that anyone will answer your questions.

Winforms is only really at alpha stage currently, so there is no g/tee
on them working. I know they don't currently on my Fedora Core 2 boxes.

What makes you think swearing will get someone to help you?
 gt;

 debian.org is perfect?
The package from the debian archives works.

I think the only substantial difference between my system and yours is
that I have kernel 2.6.5 installed. Can you try installing that (it's
easy with the debian package; the command quot;apt-cache search
 kernel-image
2.6quot; will list packages, one of which will probably be optimized for
your computer's CPU), and use it to try again?

Whether it will help or not I don't know, but it's the only thing I can
see that might make a difference.

Re: [Mono-list] mcs and mono package

2004-06-08 Thread KiOrKY
this is my way fir mono
compile mono-cvs-snapshot and do make install
compile mcs and do make install
and re do make install in mono-cvs-snapshot
for me, both are installed, and thats no problem ;)
(checkinstall -D is very nice)

if you have packages what about do this (install mono then mcs then re mono) (even
with force option)

ive not post it repeatly, and i was answering ton jackson. whn i ask mono community
about it, its just the only thing i request to it to be implemented (transactions)
because industrials wanty to have these transactions. if mono dont implement it, it
could be discredited !

If you need support for transactions, maybe your company can contribute
it or pay someone to implement it (it sure looks like it would benefit them
much more than paying someone to post the same message repeatedly on a

[Mono-list] Just upset, but not angry

ok, so i will explain some things.
i used linux for many time (i just use win at work ;) ) but i never tested seriously
projects. So for bugzilla, escuse me if i have not do a good report. i do my best...
I dont want too to flood the mailing list bug the fucking webmail im using (because
behind the socity firewall, its difficult to use email clients !)

now, i will fix bug 58945 which was due to a materiazl problem (one of my ram was
crashed).

For the spam, im not agree with you, before posting, i look for google, the
archives

For npgsql, i have ever posted you thiese informations

for mono, in fact my actually job is to test him. (really ...) But the only goal is to
report to my society if it is relevant to follow his evolutions and if today, we can
consider to put him in exploitation

Thats why i ask for you if you can implement transactions, because its one of the
factors which discredite mono in my society!

But in any way, good work !

so for distribued transaction with rollbac capability, its not possible?
i say just that because in exploitation or industry, this point is very important !

 Mono does not support COM/OLE2/ActiveX/DCOM/MTS/COM+.

COM+ distributed transactions are in the .NET API
 System.EnterpriseServices. However, Mono only has
 System.EnterpriseServices stubbed.

It would be very difficult to implement COM+ transaction capability in
 Mono.

There are alternative technologies, such as, Remoting.Corba, which could
be modified to provide transaction support. I am only guessing here
since I never done CORBA stuff before.

Thanks. Could you do it again with the --assembly option? It looks like
an assembly is using the 'rvice' culture, which is not a real culture.
Is there only one assembly in you lt;webappgt;/bin directory?

I am indeed considering upgrading to quot;sidquot; but:

 1) I am concerned about messing something up. It is somewhat of a
quot;productionquot; web server (it hosts the web site of a non-profit that
 I'm
invoved in) and I'm somewhat of a Linux novice.

 2) I haven't been able to locate a good HowTo that explains upgrading from
 woody to sid.

 3) I've read that there are no security updates for sid, so I would be on my
own for keeping track of security patches and applying them. The last thing
I need for my blood pressure is to have some spammer hack my site and steal
a month's worth of bandwidth by the time I get wind of it.

installer mono-0.91 sur ma FC1 (configure --prefix=/tmp/mono; make; make

Re: [Mono-list] webservices / need help on installing mono

2004-05-25 Thread KiOrKY
sorry i copy my last thread here to not flood the mailing list.
the problem is taht i cant install mono to continue performing my tests...

So i prepare all in theory... but i cant practice..
help me :-)

Hi,
so ... i keep on posting on mono list but no one had answer me for one
week. I will open thread with maybe less esplicit words...
Maybe u re thinking im a big shit, that i want to shot down mono. My
aim is just to install it. In fact, i: testing it. If it works as well
as i ve tested the base framework, BTW the enterprise where i work
will and want change his way of thinking into free world ( :-), i hate
microsoft ). So mono is a good tool for me, because it s one of the
only args i have to present him againts m$ technology.

Description of Problem:

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. cd monoxxx (mono 0.91)
2. ./configure --efix=/usr/local --woth-jdk=/path/to/jdk --with-nptl=no
3. make
4. make install

Actual Results:

hangs at make install:make[3]: Rien à faire pour « install-exec-am ».
/bin/sh ../../mkinstalldirs /usr/local//lib
 /usr/bin/install -c -m 644 mscorlib.dll /usr/local//lib/mscorlib.dll
MONO_PATH=. ../../mono/mini/mono --config ../../data/config
/../gacutil.exe /i ./Accessibility.dll /f /package 1.0 /root /usr/local//lib

Expected Results:
-
install finished
How often does this happen?
---
everytime
Additional Information:

everything is going fine either this

compilators used: gcc 3.0- 3.1- 3.2- 3.3- 3.4

kernel 2.4.26

You need to install mod_mono and xsp, but beyond that the web services
work essentially the same as under IIS with the .asmx files.

There are example .asmx files in the xsp samples.

in an hurry,
   a) you have not provided enough information.
i had ever said that i use debian sid (see my signature) , that i had reported the
bug if you want complete information (#58945 on bugzilla.ximian.com)
   b) no-one knows the answer to your question.
i dont mind ! im not alone with that probleme
   c) you actually did get an answer and missed or ignored it.
i know how to read :(
   d) me ?
i use webmail so it cant continue a unique thread, and i m sorry about it!
Sorry, regards
   e) try a different kernel.
why?2.4.26 has worked in an previous installation... that i ve even posted
   f) build from the CVS sources.
To build, i must have one base mono installtion, isnt it?

Sorry, sincerly

Please do not continuously re-send the same question to the list, if
no-one has responded to your previous questions it might be because:

   a) you have not provided enough information.

   b) no-one knows the answer to your question.

   c) you actually did get an answer and missed or ignored it.

If you have posted a bug in bugzilla you should wait for a response to
the ticket. The responses you received there seem to indicate that you
 should try a different kernel.

If you are having difficulty building mono from source on a platform for
which there is no package available you have at least three choices:
wait until some package becomes available, install a supported OS
distribution on your machine or attempt to build from the CVS sources.

Perhaps if you were to specify exactly the OS version that you are
trying to use there might be someone who has succesfully built on that
same platform who might be able to give you the appropriate options to
configure, or may be there isn't.

But please do not keep sending the same message to the list - it is not
going to get your answer any quicker.

Hello,

keep on my adventures with mono, im fed up with this bizarious error:
 during install, it hangs on

 /bin/sh ../../mkinstalldirs /usr/local/lib
  /usr/bin/install -c -m 644 mscorlib.dll /usr/local/lib/mscorlib.dll
 MONO_PATH=. ../../mono/mini/mono --config ../../data/config
 /../gacutil.exe /i ./Accessibility.dll /f /package 1.0 /root
 /usr/local/lib

nobody have answer me ;( at time

i ve reinstalled entire system, librairies... after a crash, and this
i
 ve dont it 2 times.
I think so that everything is fine, either libs ...

That might be a genuine bug in Mono. But:

 * We do not know what platform the above is in.

 * We might not have access to the platform you are
   trying to run on.

 * You should probably try a supported distro first.

miguel

Maybe because the subject wasn't in all caps? Possibly it was because
you didn't provide enough details? Could you provide a DB schema, and a
more complete test case? And do all of this in a nice easy to read
profanity free bug report filed at bugzilla.ximian.com?

Thanks!
