[MOPO] FA: Lots of "better" one-sheets closing TONIGHT on eBay, many true bargains!

2007-07-31 Thread Bruce Hershenson
We are posting this to MoPo because, with just HOURS to go, there are still 50
of our current 901 U.S. one-sheets in our current Tuesday auctions (CLOSING
TODAY TUESDAY JULY 31st), THAT ARE STILL AT 99 CENTS EACH, AND OVER 150 THAT
ARE UNDER $2, and we KNOW that MoPo has many dealers and collectors who
appreciate these posters! Right now, a very few of these are at deservedly high
prices, but there are many others that are still at bargain prices, and that
includes a lot of $50 and $100 posters that are at a FRACTION of their regular
retail prices! WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT YOU GET A COPY OF OUR EXCELLENT
"DRIVE-IN" MOVIE POSTER BOOK WITH ANY PURCHASE (EVEN ONE OF JUST 99 CENTS) IT
REALLY IS AN INCONCEIVABLY GOOD REASON TO BUY ANY ONE POSTER!

And with just TWO days left, there are lots of truly wonderful stills in our
Thursday auctions that are so low it would be a crime if they sell at anywhere
near those prices!

What is in our Tuesday night auctions that close TODAY TUESDAY, July 31st on
eBay?
901 U.S. one-sheets including more than 75 exploitation 'drive-in' movie
posters, plus 20 posters of serial movies of the 1930s and 1940s, with lots of
"Chapter Ones", all currently on eBay ending Tuesday, July 31st beginning
around 7 PM CST! Read more about these great items below, or go see them right
now (with large thumbnails and links to these great auctions on eBay for easy
bidding) in our
Tuesday Auction
Gallery!
What are some of the best items in this current Tuesday auction? You'll
find 2001 A Space Odyssey (style A and style B from 1968!), Frankenstein (great
R60s art!), Hideout in the Alps (great French Alps art!), The Ipcress File
(great shades artwork style), Halloween, The Chinese Ring (Charlie Chan),
Goldfinger, Easy Rider style C, Tom and Jerry (a stock poster from 1955, but
with a really great image, and a poster I have never ever seen or heard of
before!), Joe Frazier vs Muhammad Ali Fight Pictures, Headless Ghost, The Brain
Eaters, Graduate (pre-awards 'This is Benjamin' style!), Mad Max, Santa and Ice
Cream Bunny, Grease teaser, and much, MUCH more!
We are also offering a great collection of exploitation 'drive-in'
one-sheets including Girls in Prison, Speed Crazy (great hot rod image with bad
girl!), Dragstrip Girl, Girls on the Loose, Hard Fast and Beautiful, Freaks
R62, White Pongo (R51), Green Slime, and much, MUCH more!
The rare serial posters include G-Men vs the Black Dragon (chapter 1), The
Black Coin (chapter 1), The Lone Defender (R30s Rin-Tin-Tin), Holt of the
Secret Service (chapter 1), Winners of the West (chapter 1), and much, MUCH
more!
I could easily go on listing dozens more titles, but you really need to
check these out for yourself!

**
Note that, because we are selling lots of "drive-in" type posters this week, we
are giving a bonus copy of one of our very best (and most popular) $20
full-color books, Drive-In Movie Posters, to everyone who purchases from us
this week, even if they only buy one 99 cent poster! If you don't have this
book already (or maybe even if you do), you should find one of our 901
one-sheets to bid on this week to get this great book and a vintage movie
poster for only 99 cents plus
shipping!*

What is in our Thursday night auctions that close THURSDAY August 2nd on eBay?
220 GREAT vintage 8" x 10" stills (including 24 candids featuring great
behind-the-scenes images!) The auction solely contains LOTS of wonderful
vintage 8" x 10" stills (covering just about all genres and decades)! Note that
these stills come to us from several very longtime collectors! They purchased
them from poster exchanges and from collectible stores many years ago, and they
were the sort of people who sifted through hundreds of vintage stills to find
"the right one", which explains why these collections contains so many
wonderful vintage stills, and why so many of them are in really nice condition
(don't be fooled by our ultra-harsh grading as most of these stills are in
quite nice condition, especially given their age).
We have run six consecutive auctions of stills prior to this one (a lot of
those stills came from a single consignor, and now we are adding in stills from
two other excellent collections we have been consigned). This seventh auction
contains 220 vintage 8" x 10" stills (including 24 excellent candid stills).
What are candid stills? THEY ARE STILLS THAT DEPICT IMAGES THAT ARE NOT FROM
THE MOVIE, but rather "behind-the-scenes" images taken by studio photographers,
which are images that often can't be found anywhere else (except some dealers
sell reproductions of some of these images, sometimes knowingly or unknowingly
selling them as vintage originals).
WE GUARANTEE THAT EVERY STILL IN THIS AUCT

[MOPO] A quick question: Who here does NOT sell ANY movie paper?

2007-07-31 Thread Bruce Hershenson
I get the feeling that a majority of members of MoPo are either full-time or
part-time movie paper sellers. If it is not too personal, who here is a member
who does not sell ANY movie paper? You are welcome to simply post a one
sentence answer, and not explain why. I am just wondering if there are
virtually ANY "collectors only" on this forum!

At the moment I'm just a collector. I don't really foresee ever selling

I've sold a handful of items over the years, mostly through Bruce,
plus a couple private sales to collectors. More of getting rid of
duplicates than dealing. Even if you averaged them all out, it's
less than one sale per year I've been collecting so I don't think
I qualify as a "dealer" except in the most extreme definition. Of
course, these days I don't buy much either.

Craig.

Re: [MOPO] A quick question: Who here does NOT sell ANY movie paper?

2007-07-31 Thread Mark Stewart
I have been a collector since 1990.

I do sell/trade off posters now and then mainly to
raise monies for new posters or I get tired of them.

Re: [MOPO] A quick question: Who here does NOT sell ANY movie paper?

2007-07-31 Thread Doug Taylor
I've been collecting since 1992. I focus on AA Best Picture winning one
sheets and own the most complete private collection of them in the world.
(All but 3: http://www.burton-taylor.com/test/posters/TBCindex.htm)

I also collect Film Noir OS's, 50's SciFi OS's, and a few other posters with
artwork I like or think will hold value.

I do sell, occasionally, but mainly lesser condition posters after I've
obtained better conditioned copies.

[MOPO] Leaving your Posters when you head to the afterlife!!

2007-07-31 Thread Susan Heim
I have two daughters. They have both grown up in the "movie poster world". They
have both attended auctions with me, helped me organize posters, frame posters,
etc. My customers here on the west coast have watched them both grow up. My
oldest daughter, while she knows all about the posters and has several in her
own collection, is not really that into it. She would rather have new clothes.
I've never been that way, I'd rather wear my old jeans and drive my pickup than
pass on a poster I've always wanted.

My youngest daughter who just turned 11, on the other hand, is really into the
posters as she is into old movies. I knew she would be when she was about 1 1/2
years old and I found her one day sitting on the coach for over an hour very
carefully turning the pages and examining everything on it in one of Bruce's
current catalog auctions. She went through the entire catalog and then went
back and went to a certain page, got down off the couch, and announced her
favorite poster was "Creature from the Black Lagoon". It was the half sheet. I
bought it for her to put away in case she needs some money for college. I think
she would pass on college if she thought she had to sell it but since at this
point she want's to go to Harvard, she may have to reconsider. She has the
international one sheet from Roman Holiday hanging above her desk here at work
and many of my customers come in and want to buy it and she let's them know,
"it's not for sale." She still goes through all the catalogs that come into
the shop from Grey, Bruce or whoever has sent them to me. I know my posters
will be in caring hands when I'm gone.

I have so many studio customers that know her and her love of the posters that
they often send her signed posters for her collection. She just had her 11th
birthday. She received a tube in the mail on Saturday with a return label that
simply said "John Travolta, Santa Barbara, CA". She was blown away and inside
was an original Grease poster with happy birthday wishes to her written on the
poster. It was the "love, John Travolta", that all the girls (and their
mothers) were oohing over. She had it in the frame by the time her party goers
arrived. We even kept the tube. It was very exciting. One of our own members,
Richard Del Basio, was so kind to bring her a copy of "Funny Face" and we
watched it Friday night. Love Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.

So, the moral of the story is, "I still love move posters, even after 35 years
of collecting. Even that Grease poster showing up gave me a thrill especially
since it was for my daughter and she has that same love of the movies and the
posters. As a matter of fact, she was a bit worried last week when I announced
that I was going to be building a website to offer posters for sale. I promised
her that her's were safe! I, on the other hand, am already have separation
anxiety from the ones that fellow Mopoers have bought in the last week.
Packaging them up to ship gave me a bit of angst. Sounds pretty corny, huh? Oh
well, corny it is!!

To get serious, just for a moment, I have actually written up a paper with
information for my family to do some research before offering the posters for
sale. It doesn't hurt to have Heritage/Grey's information, Bruce's info, price
guides, dealer info,
www.learnaboutmovieposters.com website,
how to ask a question to fellow MoPo members, and any other thing you do
regularly just to help out the "non collector" in what will probably be a very
trying time. Put the paper in a place your family knows about or your safety
deposit box! If you have insurance, you should regularly update your prices
regularly. That is the reason I am beginning to sell off inventory as the
insurance is a killer. I didn't have insurance for years because I couldn't
afford it. I know many of my collector friends don't have it either and a few
of them have lost entire collections in a fire or flood. That's what made me
get the insurance. So..that's the scoop! Happy collecting!..

PS... Following my post that I was opening up my inventory after being in
storage for over 20 years, I received dozens of want lists and calls. Thank you
to all the Mopo members that sent me want lists of posters they are looking
for. I am busily packing up tubes and flats to get all the items you bought out
to you. As I said I am suffering a bit of separation anxiety, but I do
appreciate the support and glad my posters are going to happy homes.

But my collection is still going to be consigned to Heritage, after I croak,
stuff it, buy the farm, kick the bucket, pass on, shuffle off this mortal coil,
run down the curtain and join the choir invisible.

  Hello all,
I wanted to let you all know, as he would never tell you himself, that one
of our members, Glenn Taranto, sold a script that he has been working on for
quite awhile. It is now being developed for film along with all the if, ands,
or buts that comes with it, casting it, where to shoot it, etc. He is now
involved in rewrites and all the added "bonuses" of selling a script (that's
when the real work begins!). Since Glenn is an actor by trade, he may even have
a part in it. I just wanted to publicly congratulate him and let him know he
has my admiration and support. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy!! Truly!!

So, Bruce, are you surprised that there are so many? I kinda am.

[MOPO] Posteritati New Site & Update

2007-07-31 Thread Posteritati

Dear Friends & Customers,

Yes, it's finally here! We are very excited to announce the long
awaited (and delayed) new Posteritati web site & update. We really
appreciate your patience and hope everyone will like the new site.
We will look forward to any comments and suggestions.

In addition to the new design, e-commerce is the newest feature,
making it possible to place orders through the website. We will
still need to make sure the item(s) are available before finalizing
the order however. We are also now offering free shipping on all
domestic orders at or above $100. You can still call or email us for
any info or to place orders as before if you prefer that method. We
are here to help and appreciate your interest and continued business.

To thank our regular clients, anyone who has purchased anything from
us in the past 5 years, may take 15% off any order up to $4,999 and
20% off any order between $5,000 - $9,999 (discounts taken off list
prices). For you deep-pocketed collector's, take 25% off any order
of $10,000 or more! Please note that any sale orders cannot
currently be made directly on the site and will have to go through
the gallery as in the past.

This update includes almost 800 new acquisitions! They include the
following: Vertigo U.S. one sheet, insert and French poster, The Big
Sleep and The Lady from Shanghai inserts, Gilda and Roman Holiday
Belgian, Some Like It Hot three sheet, Thunderball U.K. quad, The
Philadelphia Story title card, Persona Swedish, 400 Blows small
French, Star Wars U.S. style A and D 30x40's, and a great collection
of rare Polish and Czech posters including 101 Dalmatians,
Pickpocket, First Spaceship on Venus (amazing sci-fi artwork),
Persona, 8 1/2, La Dolce Vita, Barbarella, and A Man Escaped.

Thanks again and as always, happy hunting!

Best Regards,

I have sold about two posters in my life, and that was over five
years ago.

I definitely have posters I don't need any more, since my collecting
tastes have changed over time. I'll probably eventually see if Bruce
will sell them, since I don't really enjoy spending my free time
photographing posters, looking for gorilla-proof packaging, etc.

Re: [MOPO] A quick question: Who here does NOT sell ANY movie paper?

2007-07-31 Thread Judith Weaver

I am STRICTLY and 100% a collector. I signed up for MOPO to learn more about
the history of movie paper and have indeed learned a lot from those of you in
the know. I started as a child reading Nancy Drew and became a voracious
mystery reader as an adult. Then I began collecting first edition mystery
books. Then when I realized how many mystery books/characters were made into
movies, I began collecting smaller paper on those mystery movies. Thus here I
am.

I see a lot of mystery items of interest to me in many of the MOPO posts. And
for those of you who also collect mystery movie paper and outbid me on items I
really want, please STOP IT.

Thanks for the movie paper education via MOPO. Best regards to all, Judi
