Yes, there was so much linen discussion, I thought I was in the tropics.

Thankfully, a rather good controversy surfaces J.I.T., so the linen
topic can die of disinterest.

Michael,

I remember those keys at the auction and I belive at least one of them was
broken and not complete. I also remember just two and not four. I also
believe that Sam Irvin purchased them.

[MOPO] FA: If Conrad Veidt could see the current prices on his stills, he'd be The Man Who Cries, Not The Man Who Laughs

2008-11-05 Thread Bruce Hershenson
*We have FIVE incredible first release stills from "The Man Who Laughs", all
with great images of Conrad Veidt in make-up, and, with 21 hours to go, they
are between $13 and $25 each!*

And there are lots and lots of other equally wonderful buys at current
prices, on stills, Australian daybills, German posters, and much much more!
Be sure to check out our *612 THURSDAY ITEMS (*Part IV of our 9th Annual
Halloween Auction includes all items that did not fit in the first three
parts, including 612 Australian daybills, German posters, vintage stills,
some really great promotional items, and more)* *on our website
sometime *BEFORE
* they end *Thursday November 6th, * beginning around 7 PM CST by going to
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/14.html

*THIS IS YOUR VERY LAST CHANCE TO TAKE THE EMOVIEPOSTER CHALLENGE!
* In our four auctions running between October 21st and November 6th, we
solely auctioned Halloween-related items of every size and covering all
decades (over 2,800 items in all!). We give a great full-color limited
edition t-shirt to every buyer of at least one item from all four auctions
(but a limit of one shirt no matter how many of the four auctions you
purchase from). Approximately 4,000 of our 30,000 past buyers
*HAVE*purchased from us on our new site, and of course, there are
surely some
other people who would enjoy owning vintage movie posters who have never
purchased from us. Nothing would make us happier than to sell the 2,800
items in our four Halloween auctions to 2,800 * DIFFERENT* buyers, so we
would give away 2,800 bonus t-shirts, at no charge to buyers!
If YOU have not purchased from us on our new site, we ask you to find
any *ONE* item out of our 2,800 Halloween items, and purchase it (and you
may well get it for just a dollar or two), and you will get that item
*PLUS*the cool t-shirt at no added charge, and you will see just how
much
*MORE* we do for our customers than any other auction site we are aware of,
and you will receive both a cool Halloween item and a great t-shirt for very
little money! Of course, all of our current active 4,000+ customers are
welcome to purchase as well, but we really hope that we can get some of the
people who have either not purchased since we switched to our own site, or
those who have never purchased from us to buy at least one item, just to see
how we have improved our service even more since we "went on our own"!

*THERE ARE LOTS OF GREAT DEALS AND REAL "STEALS" AS OF RIGHT NOW IN THIS
FINAL "PART IV" OF OUR CURRENT HALLOWEEN AUCTIONS!
*Maybe it is because we just sold nearly 2,300 items in the first three
parts of our Halloween auction (for over $215,000), or maybe it is because
of the uncertain economy, but, as of right now, there are *TONS* of great
horror/sci-fi items in our Thursday auctions that are at ridiculously low
prices (and there are some really wonderful items, including many you have
surely never seen before!).
Remember that all the buyers from **these Thursday auctions get the
great bonus T-shirt with *ANY* purchase, so if you didn't get anything from
the last three sets of auctions, you *REALLY* should make certain to get
something from this set of auctions, to get that item plus the cool T-shirt
that costs *US* $9 to $11 wholesale! There are lots of stills on Thursday
that may well go for a dollar or two each, and those buyers will still get
the T-shirt. *Inconceivable!*

*KNOW THAT WE AUCTION SOLELY ON OUR OWN WEBSITE!
*We auction *SOLELY* from our own website on both *
Tuesday
* and * Thursday * nights!  We
used to auction on other venues, but now that we are completely in control
of how our auctions are run, we can continue to greatly improve our
auctions, and we feel sure you will agree!* *For the best experience with
our auctions, please use our *
Tuesday
* and * Thursday * galleries
which have the option to view large thumbnails, small thumbnails, or text
only view, and are fully searchable with lots of sort options.

*Register for our Auctions*
*Over 4,117 movie paper collectors have registered to bid in our auctions,
but if you are one of the few collectors who have not yet registered to bid
on our site, go HERE to
do so.* You need to register separately for our auctions on our own site,
because the auctions are managed by an auction software company, and you
need to create your own user ID and password (of course, your ID and
password from any other auction site won't work on our site!). It only
takes a couple of minutes to do, and it is a one time thing, and thousands
of our customers have already done so!

[MOPO] E.T. Bicycle 1sh. "faux controversy."

2008-11-05 Thread David Kusumoto

There you go again, Lieberman -- trying to get ME -- to slam Rickard's hard
work. First you say you got your info from Dan and Bob direct -- now you say
you got it second hand from a "lively discussion" at another blog/forum. Which
is it? It does matter, blog vs. direct. You hate being questioned and I'm
starting to think you got blown up ever since you were featured in eBay's
magazine. And I am a good customer of yours!

Look, I'm big enough to say I could be wrong about this -- and I received info
about 10 minutes ago that sheds light about how stuff gets spread around and
goes from being etched in stone gospel -- to controversial inconclusive -- and
back again -- ad nauseam. In sum, I'd like people who really know to come
forward, none of this guessing stuff or "second- or third-party citations from
blogs and forums" -- as Lieberman is using. Otherwise the 27x41 issue will be
debated forever, potentially hammering the value of the 26 3/4 x 40 1/2s. The
LAMP site, w/my permission, posted my views about this poster. If it needs to
be corrected, please contact LAMP. But please don't ask for anonymity, because
anonymity helps no one in our hobby, is not credible and does zero to preserve
your investment in a climate whereby "prevailing opinions" (including my own)
-- are no better then a guess based on what 'other people say.' Your manners,
Lieberman, are as bad as mine!

No, I don't think Rickard or Brooks are full of shit. ESPECIALLY because
you're only going on vague "memory" of what you say they wrote -- vs. hard
journaling by yourself. So now I'm asking you.what were the measurements
of the E.T. bike poster consigned to you by the woman from ILM? As you say,
it's a simple question. I answered yours, so answer mine. She came from ILM
-- so did she foist upon you a "first or second printing?" You've admitted
never holding a 27x41, so are we to assume this "ILM woman" consigned a "second
printing" to you? And she came from ILM? Pfft. If you want to keep
declaring to your customers that there's a first printing -- even though you've
never held one -- hence making them you've only got "faux sorry seconds" to
offer, be my guest. And stop telling me to calm down. My wife doesn't put me

[MOPO] E.T. Bicycle 1sh. "faux controversy."

2008-11-05 Thread David Kusumoto

** Hey Dave Lieberman of Scottsdale -- on the contrary -- when it comes to Dan
Rickard and Bob Brooks -- while initially skeptical of their analysis of some
titles, particularly minty white inserts -- I was turned around 100% after
their investigation turned up other major discoveries, particularly the Pulp
Fiction advance. I don't believe I'm undercutting their knowledge or
contributions to our hobby -- by raising questions about your website, specific
to "E.T." only.

** Meanwhile, your "bait-and-trap question," "Now I'm wondering.do you
think those guys are full of shit??" -- is in my view, ridiculous. It's also
my view that it's a dumb defense of your representations about this title --
because it never answered my original question, e.g., "what were the
measurements of the E.T. bike poster consigned to you by the woman from ILM?"
At worst, you're not properly attributing information on your website about
alleged "first and second printings of the E.T. bike poster" -- or at best,

certified "E.T." NUT. What you have on your site right now -- are all ORIGINAL
FIRST PRINTINGS -- and anything else in a larger size would be immediately
suspect to me.

Dave -- I just read your note below and visited your website page...
http://cinemasterpieces.com/cine_E.htm ...and you declaratively state that 27 x
41 E.T. posters not only exist -- but that they are considered "first

I should know the answer to this -- having been at Lucasfilm when we

Posters were printed? In theory, it shouldn't have been that many. The
posters were to go only to those theaters that had been running Star
Wars for the full year. They got multiples, I would guess, but even so,
there couldn't have been that many in the US.

So anyone know just how many were printed? And do you have a

Thanks,

Thanks everyone for expressing their appreciation. In sum about the E.T.
bike poster -- I think it's best to regard it as a rare specialty item --
similar to the first Star Wars 20x29 promo poster drawn by Howard Chaykin.
The BIG difference is Chaykin's Star Wars poster was a true commercial
poster -- sold openly by the hundreds for under $2 (I believe it had a flat
retail price of $1.75) at Comic-Con here in San Diego in 1976. The E.T.
bike poster was never to be sold and showed up at Comic-Con in scattered
numbers. IF a 27x41 or 27x40 bike poster exists, in nearly 30 years, no one
has stepped forward here in CA with one in hand for me to measure and
inspect. And I think that would've happened long ago. It would've been
easier to print and cut this poster standard size, but Spielberg has a long

Metro yet), Monogram, Paramount (back to pre-Paramount in 1912) PRC,
Republic (both types) RKO, Universal and Warner Brothers. We have also
included a brief history of each studio, the process and use of production
stills during production, as well as numeric and alphabetical indexes to
help narrow down which studio it is from.

Sue did a screen capture from a couple of the logs. Each log is different
depending on the studio records. Here is the sample: Production

Hey Ed!!

Nice job with this. Can you give us some sample pages of the book so we can
see what a couple pages look like? Maybe you can scan a page or two and put
a link on your website and then direct us to it? May help sales!

Thanks!

Subject: [MOPO] announcement for those who handle production stills

Greetings,

If this is inappropriate or in the wrong place, please let me know.

We wanted to let dealers and collectors who handle stills know that our new
2008 Edition of US Movie Studio Production Codes book with 22,000 production
codes to help identify unknown production stills is NOW AVAILABLE!

We spearheaded this research last year as a one time project but we have
received so many great reviews that we have decided to continue to expand
and document production numbers. With so much documentation needed in this
area, and such great response, we are making this into an annual
publication.

For those who have the first edition from last year, in a couple of weeks we
will also have the 2007 supplement available and will be contacting you
individually.

Here
  is the information

Jurassic Park Author Loses Cancer Battle

5 November 2008 10:34 AM, PST

Bestselling Jurassic Park author and filmmaker Michael Crichton has
lost his battle with cancer in Los Angeles. He was 66.

Crichton, who also wrote sex thriller Disclosure and co-created hit
TV series ER, was 66.

In a statement, the author's representative says, "While the world
knew him as a great story teller that challenged our preconceived
notions about the world around us, and entertained us all while
doing so, Michael Crichton was a devoted husband, loving father and
generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the
wonders of our world through new eyes.

"He did this with a wry sense of humour that those who were
privileged to know him personally will never forget."

A family insider tells website MomLogic.com, "Michael's family
respectfully asks for privacy during this difficult time."

Crichton was born in Chicago, Illinois but grew up in Roslyn, New
York, the son of a journalist who encouraged his writing passion.

He quit studying English at Harvard University to travel through
Europe and then returned to Massachusetts to study medicine at
Harvard Medical School.

His early novels were written under the pseudonym Jeffery Hudson.

Crichton gave up medicine in the early 1970s and moved to
California, where he began directing movies based on his books.

His big break came with 1973 cult movie Westworld.

He almost became an actor in the mid-1970s when director Nicolas
Roeg called on him to play the alien David Bowie eventually
portrayed in The Man Who Fell to Earth. To date, his only acting
role came in 1971's The Andromeda Strain, in which he played an
uncredited surgeon.

The author/director starred in his own real-life drama in 2002 when
he was tied up and robbed at gunpoint by masked men in his Santa
Monica, California home.

Married five times, Crichton leaves behind one child, Taylor.

His bestselling novels and hit screenplays also include Twister,
Congo, The First Great Train Robbery and all the Jurassic Park
sequels.

As a filmmaker, he directed the movies The 13th Warrior, Physical
Evidence, Runaway and The First Great Train Robbery, among others.

Hi Chris,
You told me you read your emails every day. It's been 5 days since I
wrote and nothing. You also told me turnaround time was 3-5 wks.
You've had it since Sept. 5 and today is Oct 23. Then you told me you
were backed up without your wife. So why say 3-5 weeks if you know
you can't pull it off?

You say you're backed up, yet you want my husband to send you more
posters. How does that make sense for us? However, I see you had
time to get my check cashed, but not ship the poster which you said
was done and has been paid for. So far, Chris, we are not impressed.
I hope your work is worth the unprofessionalism.

Andrea Kanter

Hi Andrea,
No I didnt say I wanted more posters from you or your husband, i need
just your
payment. because i dont know you... I always ask
for payment up front from unknown people. BTW I will be at the Poster
Fair this
weekend working for a major dealer
as her main sales prson. I usually sell 10 posters in a day witrh her
am,ounting to $20,00 in sales. So they really want me. Hope we can touch

This spectacular piece has been in my personal collection for over 35

It is VF or a bit better -

It is also on linen with very light fold line touch-ups by the great
Igor Edelman at his peak.

(He backed this piece about 20 years ago!)
Price is $13,000.

Serious buyers only - email me and I will send jpegs.

Re: [MOPO] off topic: I'm selling my Nikon N90s

2008-11-05 Thread Bruce Hershenson
One of the most bizarre marketing moves of all time was the packaging of the
lots in the Gunnar Nelson auction! This remarkable collector had both one
sheets and the full lobby set for many great 1940s titles, and the
powers-that-be at Butterfield's put both one sheets and the full lobby set
for a single title in a single lot, thus forcing poster collectors to bid on
lobby cards and vice versa!

This guaranteed most sold at a wholesale price, and the entire group of
posters and lobby cards sold for far under what they would if they had not
been sold in this idiotic way.

Maybe that has something to do with why Butterfield's got out of the movie
poster biz.

Hi Kirby,
Thanks, but your memory is faulty. I rescued your camera at that little
