Yes, it is great and it was nice to finally meet Toochis and her husband.
Aren't collectors the best people?!

Good luck to all.

Re: [MOPO] Bride poster current price

2010-11-11 Thread Freeman Fisher
Heritage hosted a nice little reception tonight. Besides all the
Mopo'ers meeting for the first time other Mopo'ers (and no doubt thinking YOU
LOOK NOTHING LIKE I THOUGHT YOU WOULD but in a good way.I am pretty sure)
absolutely the star of the show was Todd's advance one sheet for THE BRIDE OF
FRANKENSTEIN. They had it in an oversized frame, gloriously spot lighted on a
wall all by itself yet separated by a gauntlet of glass cabinets. I wasn't
sure if I was suppose to light a candle and genuflect or plant a tree for
Israel.Yet poster was well within access and close enough (think the Mona
Lisa or Moon rocks) to really encourage close examination. What was
remarkably impressive in person, besides clearly noting it was folded/unbacked
and in miraculous condition, was the blue/green question marks and the words
WHO WILL BE and WHO WILL DARE visually screaming against the brick red tones
of the poster. What an astonishing use of colors. As great as Herit!
age's catalogue photography is, poster remains even more amazing in person.
And truly a bit arresting seeing such a singularly rare and historic one sheet
from our hobby/business. Those goddamn Honus Wagner Baseball Cards have
nothing, NOTHING on Todd's piece. Hell throw those firstie Superman or Batman
comics and still they would pale.

On a much lesser but equally dramatic revelation in person was the one
sheet for DODSWORTH (a great film certainly, but what a great one sheet) the
9 foot Austrian KING KONG (Stunning! So much so I thought Toochis Marin was
going to start crying) the Bette Davis one sheet for EX-LADY and well too many
others to list. Staffers were busy all night pulling items for individuals so
the oohs and aahs were consistently floating in the air. Good grief THE FURY 6
SHEET when brought out was a show stopper. Probably the biggest surprise for
me personally, was the Mini-Window card for THE WALKING DEAD. Good grief, now
I know why so many people enjoy collecting these small treasures. Yeah they are
scarce, but the printing consistently impress.

Since Heritage is also hosting an Entertainment and Props auction on
Sunday there were also great costumes (And not one anywhere near my size. good
grief what shrimps movie stars were/are, I am sure I could beat most of them
up) , scripts, beautiful photos and props to look at. Should be a busy and
successful weekend for Grey and the LA based Heritage crew. Great to have
another major poster auction in LOS ANGELES. This felt so much like the
stories I have heard regarding Bruce's auctions when he hosted them here.
Will be attending at least the first wave of bidding tomorrow. It will be
interesting to see if the location change from Dallas impacts the results, but
my guess is the internet may simply be such an overwhelming leveler that it may
prove to be moot. Nevertheless this is a most appreciative treat for those who
live in the City of Angels and vote Democratic.

When did the Visa De Censure information first appear on French posters?
Namely French Grandes. I was under the impression that this started in 1960.
I would ask Ed Poole about this. I currently don't have access to LAMP.
The Visa De Censure number in question is N 595.

[MOPO] Movies and Movie Posters -- Metropolis

2010-11-11 Thread Evan Zweifel
I got to see the newly released nearly complete version of Metropolis last
night.

The missing footage is incredible -- and I highly recommend seeing this on the
big screen when it plays your city!

I type that cynically because I know the chance of seeing this in the US on the
big screen, unfortunately, very small.

The new footage is dropped in, unrestored, to the restored print, so its
obvious when you are watching the missing footage. It makes for an interesting
watch, as you can peer into the mind of a 1927 film editor and watch them
massacre a film for the US audience!

I suspect "they" will eventually restore the new footage and you will not be
able to tell. This will, of course, be great -- but, I recommend seeing it
before they do. Especially if you have already seen the current version.

There is also a fun documentary running about the finding of this film running
on TCM called "Metropolis Refound". In this film a gentleman rolls out an
original Argentinian poster for the film -- treating it with the amount of
respect I've come to expect from the general population (little).

It just goes to show you, keep searching and one day you may find.

Evan

[MOPO] 3 sheet, 40 x 60 and 1 sheet frames for sale

2010-11-11 Thread Claude Litton
I am retiring from work in New York City at the end of 2010. I have had
many posters on display in my office complex for many years and the time has
come for me to vacate the premises. I will gladly supply more information
if interested. All frames were custom made and the one sheet frames have
acid free backing. All plexi. I have no space in my home for even one
more poster as I have almost 300 framed at this time.

7 three sheet frames available -black

I have 7 magnificent 3 sheet frames with plexi and foamcore backing. They
are easily opened with two screws at each corner and any three sheet will
fit whether linen backed or not as I had them made large enough.

I have two frames for 40 x 60 (one black, one silver)

1 sheet frames for sale - black (a few silver)

I also have approximately 30 frames made for linen backed one sheet
posters.

All frames are glossy black in virtual perfect condition.

They can be picked up either in New York City until December 20th or in
Monmouth County, New Jersey after that date.

No shipping - Pick up only.

The three sheet frames will cost at least $450 to $500 each in today's
market. I will sell them for $250 each with a discount for quantity.

The one sheet frames will cost well over $120 each today. Please ask for
a price based on quantity.

Please email me at this email address but preferably at
_clshowr...@aol.com_ (mailto:clshowr...@aol.com) for faster replies. I use
_twoni...@aol.com_ (mailto:twoni...@aol.com) for MOPO only and do not monitor
those emails.

[MOPO] FA: An auction like this (filled with the very best vintage stils) comes along once in a lifetime, but 284 of the items are under $7 each with 12 hours to go!

2010-11-11 Thread Bruce Hershenson
Three times *EVERY *week we auction hundreds of items that sell for low, low
prices (we actually sell lots and lots of items for $1 and $2, and around
half of all that we auction goes for $14 and under, and our leading
'competitor" *NEVER* auctions a single item for less than *FIFTEEN DOLLARS*,
due to their *outrageous* $14 minimum buyers premium).

But Thursday night's 568 single vintage 8" x 10" stills (including an
incredible group of 21 Audrey Hepburns and 23 Marilyn Monroes!), closing
tonight, on *November 11th*, represent *REALLY* incredible values, and that
includes a lot of *THE VERY BEST VINTAGE STILLS YOU EVER WILL SEE*, and yet
many of these are currently languishing at low, low, prices!

With just 12 hours to go, the 568 single vintage 8" x 10" stills include a
whopping 66 that are still languishing at just $1 or $2 each or have no bid,
a monumental 112 that are still at $3 each or under, a bizarre 236 that are
still at $5 each or under and a mind-boggling 284 that are $6 each or under!
*THAT'S RIGHT. HALF OF THE ITEMS ARE CURRENTLY $6 EACH OR UNDER, AND THAT
INCLUDES A LOT OF REALLY EXCELLENT ONES THAT MOST DEALERS WOULD ASK $10, $20
OR MORE FOR!! *

*HELLO! This is 2010, and I doubt you could have purchased many of these
items for $5 or under at any time in the past 20 years, and remember that
these prices are ONE THIRD OR LESS of the minimum buying price at those
"other" auctions (thanks to their ludicrous $14 buyers premiums)! And you
can get as many of these items as you want sent in one package anywhere in
the U.S. for just $6 shipping for all (or actual cost anywhere else), EVEN
IF you win 100 or more! And if you are in our e-mail club (over 6,400
members), you get great added bonuses of 9, 10 or 19 full-color $20 books,
if you purchase 10, 15, or 20 items (no matter how inexpensive)!*

* *

Of course, once you get *OVER* just $6, you start hitting lots and lots of
"better" titles, but an awful lot of those are currently at
*VERY*reasonable prices, far under what some of them have sold for in
the past
(the ones we can find any record of selling in the past!) including:
