[MOPO] The real The Great Escape!

2011-11-24 Thread Bruce Hershenson
One of my absolute favorite movies, The Great Escape, was based on a true
story (a few American characters were added, but otherwise the story was
very accurate, telling of the three escape tunnels in a WWII POW camp). Now
it turns out that there was also a *FOURTH *tunnel that the Germans never
found, and it has been located and it was filled with artifacts, and a TV
show Digging The Great Escape will be aired!

Re: [MOPO] The real The Great Escape!

2011-11-24 Thread Doug Taylor
I loved this movie and this story. It was an amazing accomplishment, and it
didn't hurt the my hometown fav James Garner played a key role in the film.

When I was in MBA school at the University of Oklahoma, we had a very
progressive management professor who used movies for teaching and tests in
his "Group Dynamics" course. Our mid-term was to analyze the results of
management styles in the Great Escape. (Our final was doing the same for 12
O'clock High.)

During the prep for our mid-term the professor brought in a local vet from
Oklahoma City, who was a prisoner at the Stalag and part of the team that
built the tunnels. It was fantastic to hear the stories.

Here is a pertinent link to an article in the New York Times by Dave Kehr.
If you are close to NYC, I wouldn't want to miss this. And yes, there's an

I've already written a letter to the editor. Like Anderson Cooper, I'm keeping
'em honest.
HA!

[MOPO] Everybody Needs To See HUGO

2011-11-24 Thread Freeman Fisher
I meant to post this yesterday, but I saw HUGO at an early screening and guys
this film was made for everyone
on this site.Absolutely fantastic, not really a kids film at all. Unbelievable
3-D and I mean masterful. Also the movie is a most heartfelt and
historically accurate valentine to early movie making. I don't want to
say much more but I promise, you guys will be dazzled. A few tears were
welling up in my eyes for the last 20 minutes, it was so moving and just
gorgeous.
The two kids are great and Ben Kingsley is stupendous..and Sacha Baron
Cohen who I don't really like was really terrific. Do check it out I can't
help but think you will love HUGO as much as I did.

And that its by Scorsese is a
real trip because nobody gets their brains blown out. Again I am not all that
big
a fan of 3-D (I look even more dorky in them which fortunately the lights are
down) but this film raises the bar
where it transcends being a gimmick and
is an integral part of the story.

Freeman,

Looking forward as my 8 year old son & I read the book which is
fantastic. It is partially a graphic novel illustrated by Selznick in
beautiful pen & ink drawings and it is recommended for kids & adults
alike. Seeing it tomorrow!

Off to eat turkey (my one day a year eating meat!)
