Re: [MOPO] Man Sues over cost of Movie Snacks

2012-03-08 Thread Kirby McDaniel
It's funny about ARITHMETIC, isn't it.

And nostalgia isn't what it used to be, it's true.

I just wish one of these movies would do for me today what HELEN OF TROY did
for me then!
Explaining what that was that it did is too difficult for the average MOPOLIAN
to get their head around.

I just know that Angelina Jolie does not do for me what Rossana Podesta did for
me. Or even Jacques Sernas.
There has been too much muddy water under the bridge since then. Brigitte
Bardot was also in that movie.

I remember when I saw the trailer for THE NIGHT HEAVEN FELL at the Jefferson
Theater about this same
time. You could see Bardot's uncovered BUTT! Now that was unanticipated in
Beaumont, Texas at that time in that place, I assure you.

And it only cost 35 cents.

And the Hershey bar was a nickel.

Ah nostalgia. It ain't what it used to be.

Average income in 1955: $4800. Average income last year $46000.
Average cost of movie ticket in 1955: $.25 2010: $14
Cost of popcorn in 1955: $.10 in 2010: $8-10

Kind of looks like it tracks pretty well. You could say that admission
price is a bargain these days, as it should be $25 to follow the trends.

I learned this in econ classes:  I don't pay thirteen bucks for popcorn!

And I think that the exhibitors would sell a lot more of it if it was cheaper.

And a more equitable split between the producers and the exhibitors would allow
them to shift the
price point on popcorn, drinks and everything to increase their volume.   The
sweet spot, Evan, the sweet spot.
