[MOPO] FA: Just a few hours until our Monroe vs Hepburn auctions close & lots of massively underpriced items at every level!

2013-12-15 Thread Bruce Hershenson

This "Monroe vs Hepburn" set of auctions (found at
*http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html*
) is our coolest auction of the year!* IT IS UNLIKE ALMOST ALL OF OUR
"REGULAR" AUCTIONS, BECAUSE YOU WILL FIND A MIXTURE OF ALL KINDS OF ITEMS
THAT WE AUCTION *(all U.S. sizes from 8x10 stills to six-sheets, plus lots
of posters from other countries, often with wonderful art not seen on
*ANY*U.S. posters). *THESE
AUCTIONS START TO CLOSE IN JUST A FEW HOURS AND THERE ARE MASSIVELY
UNDERPRICED ITEMS AT EVERY LEVEL AND OF EVERY TYPE AND SIZE!*

You all saw the memorabilia auctions where Marilyn's Seven Year Itch dress
and Audrey's My Fair Lady Dress sold for millions of dollars (far more than
memorabilia from icons of the 1920s to 1940s). Marilyn Monroe and Audrey
Hepburn are the most memorable movie stars at the present time, and movie
posters, lobby cards and stills from their films are likely to continue
rising in value over the coming years (especially because so much of
it is *VERY
*affordable at the present time!).

Maybe having *SO *much of it at once will result in a lot of great buys (it
is looking that way when you look at the current bid prices, but of course
there may be much more bidding near the end), and if that happens, I sure
hope the very top dealers in our hobby (both American ones like David
Lieberman, Sam Sarowitz, Jerry Ohlinger, Morris Everett, Walter Reuben,
John Hazelton, Joe Burtis, Dan Strebin and Kirby McDaniel, and non-U.S.
ones like Tony Nourmand, Stanislas Choko, Bruce Marchant, Dominique Besson,
plus all the others I did not name) see what a wonderful buying opportunity
this is, and place a bunch of wholesale bids, because just about everything
in this set of auctions is the sort of item that will sell very quickly at
a retail price when placed on a dealer's website or in their retail store
or displayed at shows!

For that matter, those who run auctions themselves (like Grey Smith, Peter
Contarino, or Richard Halegua) should surely consider bidding on some or
many of these items, because it may well be that some of them can be bought
now for reasonable prices, and then be re-auctioned for higher prices when
they don't have so many similar items to compete with, and adding some of
these Monroe and Hepburn items improves the quality of any set of auctions!

And surely just about every collector of movie paper should consider having
at the very least to have *ONE *Marilyn Monroe and *ONE *Audrey Hepburn
item in their collection, because they really *ARE *the most memorable
female movie stars!

With just hours to go, there are still 45 items at $1 or with no bids (8%),
58 items at $2 or less (10%), 72 items at $3 or less (12%), 88 items at $4
or less (15%), and 130 items at $5 or less (22%), and *EVERY *one of these
items features Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn, and most of there are *WAY
*under when *ANY *dealer would price them.

And this is also true of the items at every level (except for a very few of
the very best items). Most of the prices of the higher priced items are
somewhere between low wholesale and low retail, and this set of auctions
contains some of the very best posters and lobby cards from each of these
great stars!

Why not go right now to
*http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html*and
view all 583 items? If you are able to be at a computer as all these
items close, you certainly can wait until then to place your bids, but if
you won't be able to do that (or are unsure if you can!), then why not
place a bunch of conservative bids now, so that if there *ARE *some or many
great buys to be made, it can be *YOU *making them? I feel certain people
will be looking back at this set of auctions for years to come, and you
don't want to be saying then "I wish I had bought more"!

Best of luck to all of you on whatever you are biding on in this most
special set of auctions! Here are the items with the highest bids at the
present time (note that they include a personally autographed item from
each star!):

I'm devastated. Peter O 'Toole was the reason I became an actor. I was lucky
enough to meet him when I was 10. He was wearing his trademark green velvet
Irish slippers and pink terry cloth robe. His eyes were astonishing. He was on
set and I told him how much I loved his work and how he inspired me. He smiled,
said 'You're a love. Keep at it.' He put both of his large graceful hands
around my head and gave me a kiss. Then he pat me on my head. I almost fainted.

Thank you Sir O'Toole. Heaven rejoices with your presence.

[MOPO] A tribute to collector/dealer Norm Witty who passed away recently

2013-12-15 Thread Bruce Hershenson
I know many of you knew Norm as long or longer as I did. He was a good guy!

*A tribute to collector/dealer Norm Witty who passed away recently *
Norm Witty was a very well known collector/dealer for decades (I knew him
personally for decades, and he was an extremely kind and gentle man, with a
wonderful love of both movies and movie paper of all decades), and very
sadly he has passed away. Here is a brief biography of Norm, provided by
his family:

Norman Witty died on November 21st unexpectedly, but peacefully at his
home in New York City. From an early age he was in love with cinema and
comics. He remembered as a small boy attending Saturday matinees at the
legendary Majestic Oriental Theater in Mattapan, Mass. and always
attributed this experience to his lifelong involvement with film.

After graduating from Northwestern University, Norman lived in Los Angeles
during the turbulent sixties and was active in the antiwar movement. His
love of film and comic art led him to become an internationally known
dealer of vintage movie posters. He exhibited at book fairs, comic book and
movie poster shows throughout the country and in Europe.

In the early 1970s, Norman relocated to Northampton, Mass. and opened
"Omega Books" selling literature and later comic books. He became one of
the leading figures in underground comics. With his knowledge of vintage
comics, Norman was a most valuable resource, lending his support to younger
artists and scholars. A man of strong will, deep intellect, and sharp wit,
he was a generous and loyal friend, a truly unique individual. He will
sorely be missed.

[MOPO] collector/dealer Norm Witty

2013-12-15 Thread Richard Halegua Posters + Comic Art
I knew Norm Witty for 45 years and he was always a great source or
what I refer to as "Wittycisms"
nearly deaf he had but one good ear and the trick was always
remembering which one that was.
so you could be calling his name from 20-30 feet away and he would
just keep on doing whatever he was doing until you put a hand on his
shoulder or went over to his other side & spoke at him

always very funny, but also very cynical, he was definitely an asset
to any hobby he was involved in and his passing is a loss to all of us
