Re: [MOPO] 24x36/ A Movie About Movie Posters

2016-08-09 Thread Daniel Edward Kinske
It is interesting as their film is at somewhat of an homage to the past with
the state of affairs today (though Helmut is right I’m sure in that most of the
film will be on modern art and fan art posters)—which is essentially no one is
doing illustrated posters, save for when one of Drew Struzan’s directing chums
Lucas and Spielberg need a poster—or Frank Darabont, so interesting to see
artists creating their interpretation of the posters—which isn’t anything new,
Batiste Madalena is a good example.

But, Batiste was making the posters to be exhibited with the films at the
Eastman Theatre in New York, not decades after the film was released.

I’m not a fan of the fan art, but I am a fan of those with a passion for
something they love above commercialism. Could be an interesting movie.

I didn’t mind the slight digital manipulation they made in After Effects. It
isn’t changing the artwork, it just slightly manipulates it (with a lot of work
to do that) the art to give it life that is different from the more common Ken
Burns effect, which might be more effective if it didn’t remind us all how long
those Ken Burns sagas are.

Looking at the title, I get the impression that this will be much more about
the modern Mondo style poster prints, and not so much about vintage theatre
posters.

I really dislike those effects on the posters. The posters should and do speak
for themselves. They don’t need cgi “help.” Also, 24x36? Really? One of the
most common sizes for a repro? Really?
