Hi,



This week, in addition to new listings of MARILYN MONROE original vintage 
photographs that Ryan and I listed, I have some very rare photographs of GRETA 
GARBO and MARLENE DIETRICH up for auction.

The Garbo image comes from her personal collection and is an original passport 
photograph that has never been seen.

The Dietrich custom print is by GEORGE HURRELL and is signed by him on the 
recto portion and stamped on verso with his handwritten notes including her 
name and original year of photography.

Absence for a few weeks = incredible offerings and sales this week! Here are 
some highlights (many offerings end in 3-4 days):

1. A fantastic late 1940s autograph album including greats like JOHN WAYNE, 
JOHN FORD, OLIVER HARDY and more.

2. FRANK SINATRA signed rare 1936 $50 rare STAR note signed for a GI during WWII

3. 30% SALE in my store of most items including a great LILLIAN/DOROTHY GISH 
early signed photograph, a group lot of SESSUE HAYAKAWA early silent film 
photographs and many more (be sure to look at my entire store inventory for 
items that you would like).

4. Extremely rare hand signed EDWARD S. CURTIS group lot of 3 near mint images 
from taken on the set of a film that was never released.

5. An equally rare EUGEN SANDOW late 19th Century cigar box label - these never 
come up for sale and are quite scarce.

Hi,
What probably happened is that he got tired of trying to develop remakes
himself. I used to know the man who worked with him on these and other films
who always told me about his frustrations in dealing with Mr. Lewis and the
difficulty to develop these properties under the strict conditions that he
put on him. 
Good luck to him  - these are some great roles for actors to play.

The Bellboy -- original was shot at the Fountainbleu Hotel in Miami --  
it's a real comedy tour-de-force for Jerry

Cinderfella -- I've never seen this one but I know others in MOPO  
think highly of it

The Family Jewels -- Jerry plays seven roles in this film in which a  
little heiress is being courted by her strange selection of  
relatives.  I loved this when I was a kid and will never forget how  
funny the airplane sequence was with the in-flight movie!

Hello Everyone,

I just got a new accountant/bookkeeper and they are having trouble finding
an easy and quick way of creating reports from either Ebay or Paypal to show
only sales (by individual transactions) and sales tax collected (if possible
showing location of buyer or percentage charged). The alternative is to go
through each individual transaction to get this data that this will be very
time consuming.

If anyone knows of a time effective manner to obtain proper accounting
reports from Ebay or Paypal kindly let me know - others might have interest
in this as well.

This seems good from a grading standpoint but personally, as a purest
collector, I don't like my collectibles in plastic "cages". I like to touch,
feel and "smell" my paper gems. I've never understood putting photographs in
the plastic holders and would hate to have posters or similar items in them
as well. What's next - cut autograph pages in plastic cages? Don't get me
wrong - we have to consider individual differences but I think that most
collectors are like me.

In any event, it's a great thing that CGC will start to grade window cards.

No problem with them - they come highly recommended.

It seems that their carrier does not want to write coverage for new insured
parties for large amounts of value. Not that mine will be that high but it's
high enough for them to decline.

Hi Franc,

Personally I wouldn't let a third party handle my valuable collectibles. I'd
rather keep things in my control. The international shipping costs
skyrocketed this year from the U.S. as well. My feeling is that we have no
control of this. It's the way it must be from now on and buyers will accept
it - they want certain collectibles and will pay what is necessary to get
what they want.

Have any of the dealers on this board opted into Ebay's Global Shipping
Program, whereby the dealer ships to a processing center for global shipping
and that center takes care of everything else including customs clearance?
I'm wondering about how effective the service is and how much does is it
cost? Also, do International Ebay buyers find this service cost effective in
connection with their purchases.  I normally ship internationally via First
Class USPS insured mail and the cost has gotten widely expensive, so much so
that I'm sure it's killing my international sales in connection with my
lower priced items. Any response would be appreciated.

I was there.
There were two wealthy individuals with big pocketbooks spending whatever it
took to get what they wanted. 
The quality of most of the merchandise was pristine though and it was an

Well I am fortunate that I had to go to bed, cause the auctions  
continued into the small hours here in Europe. I must say I was  
astonished, especially with the stills not only by the prices they  
got, but also the quality of the items. I managed to get one lot  
aswell, 75 titles beginning with P for 660, which is not too bad, even  
though I have no idea what it is and I haven't got round the shipping  
costs yet.
Yesterday evening however i was crying out aloud "What recession!"  
Single stills of Sharon Tate, how lovely she may be, for more than  
$600 a piece. A lot of 175+ SF/horror halfsheets for  $6500 ex BP is  
surely too much (too much for me anyway) even when there's a House On  
Haunted Hill on borad.

Very exciting, but there must have been musea or archives or whatever  
present with a blank cheque and the order to BUY, BUY, BUY

A friend of mine has a NM 1964 Aurora Big Franky/Gigantic Frankenstein model
with all original parts; missing only original suit button, and with normal
wear-and-tear/aging to the internal rubber band. Painted by professional
artist in style matching beautifully rendered, James Bama box-cover
illustration; virtually in protected storage these last 40 years or so,
situated high-above normal room traffic at top of home library/study
floor-to-ceiling wall/book shelf.

 From a quick look I can say, once again, I am unimpressed.  Changes  
are annoying and make the store  more difficult to look at with lots  
of scrolling and clicking.  Of course, the changes are being forced on  
the sellers without any input from them.  Will EBAY ever learn?

Hi Everyone,

I'm curious to see whether anyone has sold items that they purchased from
last year's Hollywood Book Store sale. If so, and if you are so inclined to
tell us, how did you do?

I mainly purchased oversized photographs and don't plan on selling anything
in this economic environment - too concerned about low buying prices out
there.
