[MOPO] Mini Window cards

2022-12-15 Thread Morris Everett Jr.
I went to a flea market in Canton, Ohio last weekend and bought a mini
window card on Navy Blues 1941. Stamped on the back were the names Kenneth
Lawrence and Denver Sherry, both historical figures in the history of movie
poster collecting. Kenneth owned the Movie Memorabilia Shop Of Hollywood.
Denver was the king of the mini window card collectors. For me it is
pleasing to remember these important collectors.
Someone should do a book on the great collectors of movie memorabilia.

Re: [MOPO] How Was the "New" Columbus Show?

2022-05-29 Thread Morris Everett Jr.
Most of the old guard were there. Most of the action was on Thursday when a
great deal of money changed hands and some truly rare posters, lobby cards
and stills emerged. I cannot name names as I do not have the buyers or
sellers permission. There is no movie poster convention where there is so
much activity. Yes the numbers were down but the movies were great and so
was the dealer's ballroom. The movie room was jammed with more than 110 at
several screenings. i counted 5 new dealers. So next year same time, same
place so be there or be square!!!
We had a stimulating dealer's meeting Saturday morning which produced many
offers of volunteerism. The truth is that many dealers need this convention
to happen.

Re: [MOPO] Piecing together the history/origin of the hobby in 1950's and 60's

2022-05-17 Thread Morris Everett Jr.
Garth
I started in 1961 and there were five stores in NYC at that time so
collecting was thriving already. I could tell you many stories as I visited
virtually every poster exchange over the next ten years after 1961. My
first poster purchase was from Paula Kloss at Movie Star News. There were
three stores in Chicago in the 60's, three in San Francisco, three or four
in Los Angeles, one in Houston, one in D.C., and a few others scattered
around. Several of them were book stores that sold movie memorabilia as
well.
If you are coming to Columbus we can chat about all of this. The major
pioneers who bought that good stuff in the 50's were Eddie Brandt, The
Luboviski family, Ernest Burns, and Mark Ricci. They purchased large and
cheap!

I guess I'll give my own review. We are not the big boys and three of us
work on this all year long We only did $100,000 which is low for all of the
work. I get pulled either way. People like inexpensive $100 reserve lots
but it's not cost effective. Look for Major changes next year.
I am committed to preserving the Cinevent weekend as the best and last
remaining good movie memorabilia with all of it's difficulties. Paul's
comments were correct but where will you find something better plus the
camaraderie which is part of the fun?
Next year we will drop our 800 lot auction to less than 200 lots.
Lots will be of a higher quality across the board.
It will continue to be a mixture of stills, lobby cards and posters
I will bring 40,000 stills filed by title and or star for sale. Collector's
prices.
I will consider requests but people are visiting our store EVERY week.
There will be 11x14" stills in next years auction.
Taking Quality $500 and up consignments NOW. I already have 42.
Whether you buy from my auction or not please support Cinevent.
Thank You Morrie

Re: [MOPO] The world's foremost movie poster collector, Richard Carson Allen, passed away on September 19th

2018-11-07 Thread Morris Everett Jr.
For those who knew Richard Allen you had to like this gentleman. He was
"Old School" . Famous for his book, his love of collecting, that great
"Flying Down to Rio" three sheet , his wit, and his slide shows and
speeches at Cinevent in Columbus. I would see him at conventions and
auctions in Toronto, Canada, a city he and Barbara loved to visit. Every
year we lose a few old timers and Richard was at the top of my list.

Re: [MOPO] posters & stills wanted

2018-04-19 Thread Morris Everett Jr.
Sam
What most collectors do not know is that my company in NYC has moved the
still collection to me in Kirtland, Ohio and I now have 2,000,000 more
stills to sell at collector's, not dealer's prices. I have a file on
virtually every title and star. I have already had 5 serious visitors who
have spent a bundle . So Breathless, Mag 7, and Bonnie and Clyde I have
extensive files.

It might be worth a visit for you. maybe even a tennis game.

[MOPO] Morris Everett Jr. collection

2016-03-10 Thread Morris Everett Jr.
After two successful west coast sales more than 180,000 posters and lobby
cards have returned to Cleveland, Ohio and the Serious collectors have
started to visit. One needs minimally 3 full days now that everything is
for sale. Those that come to visit will be taken care of first. There are
no lists as everything was taken out of alphabetical order while it was in
California. Prices are full market price as we are not selling at the
moment to those that require discounts for resale.
There is no place in the world where this quality and quantity can be found

[MOPO] Morris Everett Jr.. Lobby Card collection Part 2

2015-11-24 Thread Morris Everett Jr.
December 7-9 part 2 of the best lobby card collection ever offered at
auction. Extremely low reserves. A dealer or collector's dream at profiles
in History. If it was not my collection I would be bidding on more than
half.

Another successful auction #23 grossed $211,000 before after sales. Movie
stills sales especially strong with a very low pass rate. Convention was
only moderately successful and some dealers did quite poorly. Future events
will probably rejoin Cinevent.
Great idea with lots of planning and heavy advertising but very poor local
attendance. Socially great as old friends saw each other after several
years but financially only a few benefited.
We will keep trying. The Internet and getting older does not help
conventions.
