nearly half his list is populated with 1940s best pictures, and while i'm
not one to put too much weight on awards, 'rebecca' and 'the lost weekend'
have firmly stood on their own since their releases.

Yes, but if the Times were to switch to online format only, it is estimated
that they would only be able to support 1/3 of their newsroom. You can't
possibly believe that a 67% decrease in writers has a positive impact on
the quality, or breadth of their reporting.

True, much of the today's news can now be had from trending twitter
hashtags, but you all are ignoring the fact that the convenience of instant
access sacrifices quality and considerably so. You cannot find better
reporting than that of the NY Times period; you may of course argue that
the internet can make up for this loss, but such wouldn't change the fact
that it is the newsprints that are the most informative and do a better job
than any website (or string of websites for that matter) possibly can.

And I'm probably younger than most of you (still in college), so shame

I gladly second this. Saw it two weeks ago in 70mm as well, and I found it
to be an altogether engrossing experience with excellent character
portrayals by Phoenix, Hoffman and Adams (love her, so I might be biased
there). Phoenix will walk away with the Oscar. Bit disappointed on how P.T.
Anderson chose to end the film though, no problem with the plot direction
just the particular scenes chosen, but I'm sure plenty'll tell me I'm
wrong. Still, excellent movie.

Go see it!
