Re: [MOPO] O.k....Where do you stand?

2008-07-13 Thread Steven W Hill
The reason it's being debated is simple: everyone is talking about different
things, and some people are not realizing it.

The price you paid is not the same as the sale price of the poster.

This was outlined very well a few emails ago.sorry I didn't save it after
reading, but it was quite succinct.

What Claude said - again.

Not sure why some folks are finding this a debatable subject.

You paid what you paid, however the amount was arrived at.

Re: [MOPO] O.k....Where do you stand?

2008-07-14 Thread Steven W Hill
A related theoretical question:

If you buy a lot of, say, four posters for $400, what do you consider you
paid for each poster? $100? Maybe...

Okay, now let's say one of them is "worth" about $300, another about $100,
and the other two are posters you can't give away (unless you bundle 'em
with nice ones). Now how much did you pay for each poster?

[MOPO] Dark Knight wanted

2008-08-26 Thread Steven W Hill
I'd like to get an original double sided Dark Knight poster, but I'm not
going to trust most random ebay sellers to be honest when they say they are
offering an original, so I thought I'd ask the good and trustworthy sellers
on MoPo if there are any (near mint) on offer. I want the one with the bat
symbol in flames on the building, with Batman in the foreground, and the
release date at the bottom. I believe there was one offered by Heritage this
past weekend, but I didn't bid on it.

Please email me directly, I will respond.

[MOPO] Sizes and relative sales

2008-09-05 Thread Steven W Hill
To our many dealers, a few curiosity-driven questions:
How do sales of 40x60 posters compare to sales of standard one sheets?
How about half sheets and inserts?
Have sales of non-one sheet sizes changed over time?

Re: [MOPO] Virginia Davis RIP

2009-08-17 Thread Steven W Hill
Ah, very sad. In a strange coincidence, I received THE HARVEY GIRLS on DVD
from Netflix on Saturday, the day she died - and I rented it solely because
I wanted to see her in it (I so admired her precocious performance in THREE
ON A MATCH, I sought out her other bit performances to view).

Disney's silent star Virginia Davis died on Saturday. I had the
pleasure of speaking to her a few times. She was a very nice woman.

Re: [MOPO] Weird Shipping Requests

2008-11-01 Thread Steven W Hill
My only suggestion is to get the largest (radius) tube possible so it's not
necessary to roll it very tightly. Also perhaps get some sheets of 11x17
paper and sandwich it between them?

Subject: [MOPO] Weird Shipping Requests

Recently I had a foreign buyer contact me while an auction was running about
a lobby card asking if I would ship it in a tube.

I told them that I would ship the item flat, gave them a very brief history
of lobby cards, and sent them a link to learnaboutmovieposters.com so that
they could learn more about lobby cards etc.

They bid and won the item irregardless and then sent me an e-mail asking
that I roll the item in a sturdy tube to avoid creasing. I simply repeated
something similar to what a lobby card was and stated that by all means it
should be mailed flat.

They reluctantly told me that I could ship it how I felt correct but that
they would hold me responsible for it's shipping condition, especially
because they wanted it rolled "as their other prints were."

Honestly, the lobby card did well but it did not command an unusual price,
I'm not sure exactly how to keep this buyer happy, but I am not going to
roll it! Knowing that I am at the mercy of the buyer this person could mess
me over in several ways and I hate that thought. And if I met their demands,
the item would show up looking like crap.

What do I do?

Mopolians,

I just bought something with PayPal, and as usual, I switched my
payment method to credit card. I don't think I got the usual message
that says something like, "Warning! Are you SURE you want to pay by
credit card? Just think of the infinite advantages of paying by bank
withdrawal! " Did they really get rid of that annoying screen? Or did
I fall asleep and miss it?

I wonder if this Poster Bob website is part of some insurance scam. A poster
collector's garage will catch on fire, damaging his Lady and the Tramp
poster. Then, he'll say to his insurance company, "That poster was worth 51
large! It says so on the Poster Bob website!"

I think I'll write this into the plot of the next episode of Poster Dragnet
(airing every Sunday night on the Movie Poster Channel).

This Poster was bought at Disney World in Florida the first year that they
opened.

We have been unable to find another one still in existence. That makes this
a ONE and ONLY,of probably the most loved of Disney Movies, which really
makes it priceless.
