2009-03-23 Thread Richard Del Belso

What's the mystery? it's for a movie called SWISS MISS, one that is apparently
not-so-highly regarded. Is it odd for a late 30's movie to have a poster this
size?

Re: [MOPO] help please: Laurel and Hardy SWISS MISS 1938 poster

2009-03-23 Thread JOHN REID Vintage Movie Memorabilia
AOL EmailLooks to me like an Indian poster possibly printed in the 60s. The
printer certainly looks like an Indian printer from that era. I have had quite
a lot of Indian Laurel and Hardy posters printed in India. About 15 years ago,
various dealers in India sent out bundles of posters to many people who
advertised in John Kisch's almanac. There is quite a bit of uncertainty about
how and why the posters were printed as the films were not specifically
reissued in India but the majority seem to have been printed no earlier than
the 60s.

I wonder if anyone really knows the origins of the posters.

Regards
John

Re: [MOPO] help please: Laurel and Hardy SWISS MISS 1938 poster

2009-03-23 Thread Phil Edwards
AOL EmailJohn is completely correct in the history of these posters.

I'll just add that reissues in India mostly depend on who has a print of the
film
and as is witnessed by the posters (unmounted) they are printed on the
equivalent of butcher's paper.

I know one Sydney dealer (and thankfully it was not me) ended up with 10 tea
chests of these posters, in
some cases hundreds of the same title.
