[MOSAIC] Fountas and Pinnell

2007-10-15 Thread SPINELLO, Carol
Hi Does anyone use the Fountas and Pinnell phonics/word study program?
We want to order the word and picture cards but we are not sure if they
are valuable and worth the money.

I had the same experience. There are several ways to buy books from
this organization. We bought many sets of 6 through their Title One
program when we started guiding reading just to have books. Some are
really good and some are not. You can review each book online and
choose the ones you want.

Their books are not free due to the shipping charges. You also have
to be careful with the large quantities of books they offer. Many are
second hand and you don't know what the condition is until you receive
them.

My advice is to investigate thoroughly before purchasing. We have
bought them, but we took our time and bought specific titles.

A couple of years ago, my principal forwarded me an email from them to

 see
if I thought it was a good idea. Correct me if I'm wrong, but once I
calculated the shipping and handling charges, the book were not that
free.
 The
books did not appear to be very good quality in terms of content.

2007-10-15 Thread Rosa Roper

Hi,
I use the Phonics program, and I am thinking that those cards are very over
priced. I have the 2nd grade version and we do not have lessons with the
pictures, but the CD rom that comes with the program is fantastic and you can
print out exactly what you need - and even create your own word cards.
I hope that helps :)

[MOSAIC] comprehension in-service materials

2007-10-15 Thread cathymillr

Hi,all,
I sent comp. charts to several of you who requested them. One is in a Macintosh
program that does sometimes not transfer well. Let me know if you have trouble.

Also, if I missed anyone, don't hesitate to let me know. I tried to save all
the message, but I will be I missed a few.

We are still in revision mode, so any input will be appreciated.

Re: [MOSAIC] Fountas and Pinnell

2007-10-15 Thread VCMUR
Hi

We have the program. I used it a lot the first year I had it, especially
with my struggling readers but don't use it so much anymore. the lessons
require a lot of prep and the kids spend a lot of time doing work at their
seat.
I've switched gears to doing most of my phonics work through oral language
games. I do use some of the activities for word work and I also use the
picture
cards and templates a lot but I bet you can get similar ones elsewhere like
in the book Words Their Way or Word Matters. Hope this helps.
