A Meghan, You will love your next class just as much:) I would be
interested in transition book bibliotherapy since these books might also also
help military families.

Hi All,

The teacher I've been covering for (maternity leave) is returning on
the 19th. I'm planning to begin talking to my kindergarteners about
this toward the end of next week. We were both there the first day of
school, and she's visited a few times, so they do know her. Does
anyone have advice for good books to help prepare them? Or what to say
or not say? Or do or not do? I am already planning on wearing
waterproof mascara, especially on my last day.

Thanks,
Meghan

I did a long term sub and promised the kids I would come back at the end of the
year. It made it easier for me,

Re: [MOSAIC] Writing Punctuation

2012-12-09 Thread Deborah Hopp
Using a rubric for them to self check their drafts and then have peer editing
also. Writing conferences are a way for them to learn. When my first graders
forgot their punctuation, I would have them fix it while they were in a writing
conference with me. Maybe you could do a mini lesson with a paragraph with no
periods and have them put them in as a whole group. You could go on a
detective missing periods hunt and make it a competition. I'm sure 4th grade
would love that! Give them many opportunities for free writing, such as
journals even if it is for homework and then have them fix each others work.
Remind them true writing is a process.

Real aloud Punctuation Takes a Vacation. Model how to insert punctuation
correctly on an overhead projector or document camera with a colorful marker
(preferably not red). When it's time for a period, have them make put out their
pointer finger like they are popping a bubble and have them say "pop". It is
auditory, visual and kinesthetic. Eventually, give them "thinking markers" -
flair pens for them to insert their punctuation... let the writing begin!Lori

they don't know when a sentence ends. This is my first year teaching writing. I
honestly don't know how to help them recognize when to add a period. Any ideas
would be appreciated. In few months they will be composing two pieces of
writing
for the state exam. It is a desperate situation. Thank you in advance.
