[MOSAIC] looking for a play

2013-05-05 Thread write
I teach 8th grade. My colleagues and I are looking for a play for our
students to read in class. It is not for a drama class, so they will
not act it out. This play needs to be long enough that it would take
five (or maybe more) hours for the students to read it out loud.

Students would take on different parts to read, so it probably needs at
least ten different parts.

There has to be more educational value than entertainment value to the play.

If you have ideas, let me know either through the list or individually
.

We are working to get students to read different kinds of literature.

Re: [MOSAIC] Dyslexia

2013-05-05 Thread Patty Gullick
Most children with dyslexia have some working memory issues and difficulty,
pulling/putting together sounds. I strongly suggest a specific program such as
Wilson or Orton-Gillingham, there are many which break things down bit by bit.
I am a special educator and have been working with children with dyslexia for a
number of years and have 2 children with a dianosis of dyslexia. Many of these
kids have amazing coping systems and have memorized and hidden their disability
and then it sort of backfires on them when they get a bit older and have to
read longer and more complex material.
