Re: [MOSAIC] Your thoughts
I would like advice on this too. I have 32 students in my at-risk classroom. Their F&P reading levels are mainly H-M, but I have a student who is at B/C (we think he is cognitively impaired, but can't test him until Jan. and a girl who is at E:( I have 7 groups for centers/guided reading (they are in 1 group together along with higher kids) and I pull them (the 2 low ones) individually each day for their own guided reading time. Switching them with another class is pretty much not an option, as my school does not have the capability to switch because of how crowded we are and how the special schedule is. I don't want them missing math/writing every day for reading as they all are important. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance! :) Ellen:)/2nd grade/MI E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] MODERATOR of yahoo group: ITEACHPRIMARY Proud owner of: www.geocities.com/iteachprimary (updated 8/4/08), www.geocities.com/beachteach2007 (updated 8/11/08) www.geocities.com/campingteacher2006/ (updated 7/28/07) www.geocities.com/learningcenters2003 (updated 12/3/07) www.geocities.com/michstudies (updated 5/22/07) ___ Mosaic mailing list Mosaic@literacyworkshop.org To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org. [MOSAIC] RTI/DIBELS Reading Resources
I was just invited by my school's Learning Support Specialist to co-offer a class for teachers about "Response to Intervention" and "DIBELS" because of my experience with technology. I am not a huge fan of DIBELS as we already do M.L.P.P. (Michigan Literacy Progress Profile), as I feel that it does not reach the heart of reading instruction (we are still doing M.L.P.P. in addition to DIBELS), I agreed to help her. I am new to both programs this year and am looking for resources that would be helpful for teachers (K-5) on implementing these programs. Re: [MOSAIC] Combining reading, writing, and history standards
I taught 3rd grade last year (Michigan). I was able to integrate reading, writing, and social studies with a project on the famous ship "Edmund Fitzgerald." The students amazed me with what they did! They were using many different comprehension skills, learning about history, and writing informational text. They loved this project! They were able to use the internet and books. I also played the song which became a classroom favorite:) Although Michigan's standards are not integrated, I was able to integrate them myself. I would highly recommend doing a project like this! Re: [MOSAIC] literacy stations
At my school 1st and 2nd grade teachers are expected to meet with every reading group each day (at least 4 days per week). For me this meant 6 groups x 15 min. each = 90 min. Reading based centers could include reading (book boxes), reading journals (comprehension), literature circles, buddy reading, and listening to name a few). 60 of the 90 minutes was spent reading (15 min. with me for guided reading, 15 min. free choice reading, and 30 min. reading workshop where they read their leveled or guided reading books and wrote in their reading journals working on strategies. I would also have either writing, math, science/social studies, art and word work centers (which were generally literacy based due to need to work with small groups/materials. I think that it really depends on how the teacher uses centers in their classroom, and they can included lots of reading activities:) Just my opinion:) Ellen:)/looping 2-3/MI E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] AIM: clossell Proud owner of: www.geocities.com/campingteacher2006/ (updated 7/28) www.geocities.com/learningcenters2003 www.geocities.com/michstudies ___ Mosaic mailing list Mosaic@literacyworkshop.org To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org.
