What if you approached it from the overall theme of the challenges the people faced in creating our country. (This goes along with the fourth grade curriculum.) Another theme which would not be grade related could be how people (characters) deal with challenges or adversities. My own issue, however, is that many of the students have lost relatives (parent(s), family members, etc.) in the attack so it has to be VERY sensitive. I'm curious to hear other ideas. I was wondering if anyone has ideas on how to teach about 9/11 this year since it is the 10th anniversary of this event(I'm not sure anniversary is the right word??). I teach 4th grade and I'm looking for great resources and ideas. I think this is an important topic to discuss. Re: [MOSAIC] Invitation to new Kindergarten Comprehension List!
I've tried too, with no luck. -Jennifer Deb Kurns [EMAIL PROTECTED] 10/25/08 7:27 PM I've tried signing up for the Kindergarten focused list and have not been able to yet. Is anyone else having difficulty? Or do we need to wait for the group to be up and running first? Thanks Deb (SpEd in IL) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: New Kindergarten Focused List We are going be starting a new list with focus on Kindergarten issues. You can join the list at http://snipurl.com/kinderlist This email group is created for teachers who have expressed interest in talking about teaching comprehension strategies at the Kindergarten level. I invite you to sign up for this group so we can share ideas in an effort to impact young children's comprehension skills. Well kick off the list in two weeks. When I was in the process of achieving my National Board Certificate, I attended a 3-year long Literacy Coaching Class that offered me the opportunity to work collaboratively with my colleagues to become part of a statewide initiative sharing best practices teaching comprehension strategies in a lab classroom setting. I created a website called Planting a Literacy Garden to share my strategies and worksheets with other early childhood teachers who want to dive into teaching and using thinking strategies with their young students. [MOSAIC] Lexiles
As a Librarian, I too am very interested in this topic and value any input. Thank you, Jennifer underdown [EMAIL PROTECTED] 10/23/06 9:11 AM I have a question about lexiles and libraries. We are considering leveling the books in our library. Has anyone out there done that? If so, is each book leveled or are the books in leveled sections? What do you guys think about this idea? Part of me thinks kids will feel limited by their lexile level, but I feel that if our teachers do a good job of explaining what a lexile level is to kids, they will be more informed when they choose books...what do you think? Just looking for some feedback on a new idea in my district. barb ___ Mosaic mailing list Mosaic@literacyworkshop.org To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org.
