[MOSAIC] Book selection

2012-02-03 Thread Heather_Waymouth
Help!!! I need help finding books to put into the hands of one of my students.
He's a high school senior who reads at about a lexile level of 900, but does
not mind challenging himself a bit. He enjoys Stephen E Ambrose books -
especially his WWII books. He just read The Hunger Games - the first novel
I've ever known him to read - and wants more. However, he's not so tempted to
read the other 2 books in the series because of the whole love story element of
the plot. Any ideas?!

Every student I've recommended Unwind by Neal Shusterman to has enjoyed it.

The lexile level is 740 according to lexile.com

Tell him to read them! Catching Fire is a little slow but still really
good Mockingjay, brings everything home! I love, love, love The Book
Thief WWII... How about Ray Bradbury? The Illustrated Man and 451 are
amazing!

Good luck !

I recommend Michael Morpurgo. British author. Wrote War Horse but has
many, many other great books.

City of Thieves was highly recommended to one of my reluctant readers. So
far-so good!

Dean Myers, too.

Agree with Unwind, yet there is romance. Shipbreaker is a great dystopian novel
as well, with less romantic focus. I loved DIVERGENT - romance heavy, but IS
action packed!
