Re: [MOSAIC] Mosaic Digest, Vol 39, Issue 26--DRP

2009-11-24 Thread Peggy Elliott
Our school has used the DRP testing for the past four years. We test 9th and
10th graders in the spring and fall. However, last year the middle school
tested the 8th graders so we could identify which students needed enrichment
reading at the 9th grade, namely Read 180, or System 44. By doing that we had
the ninth graders schedules all set when school started. Before last year, I
could not administer the DRP tests and determine the results until three weeks
after school began.

If a student had a raw score of 30 or below, the student advanced to the
Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) for validating the DRP score. I found many
students scored proficient on the SRI (25 questions), but did not take the DRP
(70 questions) test seriously and scored Below Basic or worse on the DRP.

If you have the option of purchasing DRP or looking into Scholastic's SRI for
testing, I'd recommend the latter.

We also rely on teacher recommendations for students to enroll in Read 180.
Some just need extra tutoring a couple times/week, and I pull some students
from a study hall, or some other subject for weekly one-on-one thirty minute
sessions with a member of our Reading Team.

I hope this is helpful.

Hi there,

I've been going through the wealth of information on the resources
page, but I can't find a very simple and straightforward list of mini-
lessons for the year from RWM and MOT. Now I know some of you very
organized educators probably have something like this. There are many
in-depth mini-lessons, but nothing that I would call a quick look
guide where you can glance at it and make sure you've covered all the
mini-lessons in a certain strategy. I hope this makes sense. Let me
know if you have something like this.

Thanks,

Shannon
