[mou] BALD EAGLE NEST

2003-04-22 Thread webarr...@mmm.com
This goes under the heading of unusual...

There is an active Bald Eagle's nest in Stillwater in a tree less than
10 yards off of highway 36. Hwy 36 gets hundreds if not thousands of
vehicles a day in this area. There are houses within 150 yards of the nest.

I first noticed the nest last Oct/Nov with the eagles in and around it.
The pair of eagles appeared to stay in the area all winter. I saw the pair
in January, February and March.

They appear to be nesting now. I see one of them in the nest daily.

Regards,
Wayne

This morning at 9AM, a beautiful, adult plumaged, light phase Swainson's

it ends at 140th Street, west of the marsh[ie where 140th used to continue
on to highway 52.

[mou] Twig Osprey

2003-04-22 Thread Karen Sussman
As of 7pm tonight the Osprey has returned to Twig. I spotted it on my
drive home. It was inspecting the nest from last year that was moved to a
pole just beside the powerline pole it has preferred for the last two
seasons.

[mou] Red-throated Loons - Benton County

2003-04-22 Thread Herb Dingmann
This evening I found a pair of Red-throated Loons on Little Rock Lake in
Benton County. With my scope I was initially a bit unsure of the
identification, but I called Phil Chu and he was able to come out and
confirm that they were indeed Red-throated Loons. When we left at dark,
the birds were still there.

The birds were seen from Benton Beach County Park on the north end of
the lake. To get there, take Hwy 10 north from St. Cloud to the town of
Rice (about 11 miles, I think). At the stop lights, take a right, and
then immediately take another right onto Benton CR 2. Go about 2.5
miles and turn right into the park. Follow the road straight in to the
point which has a boat access. The loons were seen associating with
Common Loons (providing some nice comparisons) to the southwest of the
point.
