On Wednesday, February 21st, hundreds of citizens from = across Minnesota are coming to Saint Paul to rally in the Capitol rotunda and meet with their = Legislators to ask them to make smart investments to protect and restore Minnesota's Great Outdoors so we can = keep enjoying it today and be able to pass it on to our kids tomorrow. Bus transportation provided to and from communities across Minnesota, including Duluth. Additional communities will be announced. Visit www.ProtectOurGreatOutdoors.org for the most up-to-date information. To find out more about public transportation options, visit www.metrotransit.org. A free continental breakfast will be provided. Bring or buy your own lunch. We cannot guarantee that Legislators will be available to meet with every constituent, but we will do our best. [mou] Northern Goshawk
Birding time has been at a premium the last 7-10 days, so very much appreciated a lunch time drive near Sherburne Refuge that produced a Northern Goshawk (Ann Lake/Sand Dunes access road, about 2/3 of a mile east of CR 5) and a Great Blue Heron (marsh at corner of CR 1 87). Good birding to all - looking for an excellent Saturday birding spot - hmm, Aitkin or St. Louis Counties for northern misses... or chase that unreal Gyr on 180th again...or the ducks near Prescott...or...? [mou] Golden Eagle in Hennepin County?
--=_NextPart_216661183262305343484 Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Anyone else spot a solo eagle laboriously winging NW over Eden Prairie about 3:30 this afternoon? I got off westbound MN-5 at Mitchell Road (60) and watched it with my bino as it caught up to me and then flew out of sight to the NW. It looked like a flying wing with a small head. The young eagle, flapping constantly, just didn't look -- feel -- like an immature Bald; and when it turned slightly into the sun, I could see its nape and head was a solid light tawny color. There were clean white patches underneath, but I thought they were too close to the body for it to be a Golden Eagle. That said, it sure looked like one in every other way.
