[mou] Buff Breasted Sandpiper/Crossbills
Today my Dad and I went up to Aitkin county. One of our first birds was a Buff Breasted Sandpiper sitting in a pond on the intersection of Aitkin 15 and 441 Place. It sat for a little while with some Pect's then proceeded to go off in the grasses (where we could not relocate it). We then went to the "famous" Aitkin 18 where on the snowmobile trail we had 25+ White-winged Crossbills. Then about ten minutes later heading from a opposite direction came 2 Red Crossbills. There also was a Yellow-Bellied Flycatcher on the snowmobile trail. One other notable bird was a Magpie seen at Rice Lake NWR. This seemed a bit south for this species. All in all a great day of birding, also my Dad had 22 Butterflies on the day. [mou] Carver County-Henslow's Sparrow still present
The Henslow's Sparrow is still in the same location at Carver Park.I waited about 10 minutes before he began singing in view atop some tall grasses. He was a little further back from the trail this time. I mentioned in the past about the lack of Meadowlark. Today there were 10, 3 being Eastern and 7 being in a distant tree too far to identify. I'm not sure where they all came from. The male and female Bobolink have returned to the same area as the Henslow's Sparrow after being missing the last time I was there. Otherwise, there wasn't anything unusual. I didn't spend a lot of time standing in one area, as the deer flies were nearly unbearable. [mou] FW: Scott County WEVI
The "group" I met up with re-found the bird in the clearing at about 10:15 am this morning (Sat) ( good looks from both sides of the trail) Warren Woessner From: mou-net-bounces at moumn.org [mailto:mou-net-boun...@moumn.org] On Behalf Of Laura Coble Sent: Friday, July 25, 2008 7:51 PM To: mou-net at moumn.org Subject: [mou] FW: Scott County WEVI From: Laura Coble [mailto:shearwate...@frontiernet.net] Sent: Friday, July 25, 2008 7:48 PM To: 'mnbird at lists.mnbird.net' Subject: Scott County WEVI The White-eyed Vireo was seen very early in the am yesterday, 7/24, by Susan Plankis, about 7:00 a.m, close to the trail, in an area several yards south of the "clearing". It was moving about, making short calls, in an oak tree, which was in a thicket on the west side of the trail. She had a good look at the bird. For the rest of us who tried to find the bird after Susan observed it, the vireo was heard singing (once) and calling (3 or 4 times) on both sides of the trail for most of the morning, without emerging from the bushes and trees behind the clearing, except possibly once, in low light, so it couldn't be clearly identified. The space between song/ calls was very long (up to 45 minutes). The clearing is 200 yards south of marker #29 on the horse/dog trail at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Preserve. The trail is to your left after you go down the hill from the parking lot. This section of Murphy-Hanrehan is off of Sunset Lake Blvd. Laura Coble Cannon Falls -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
