[mou-net] Black-throated Green Warbler

2009-04-27 Thread Linda Sparling
Saturday,  April 25, I saw a single BT Green Warbler in Anoka County in an
environmental area near Blaine HS.  There were numerous Yellow-rumped Warblers
and one Orange-crowned Warblers.  Also seen:
Brown Thrasher

Field Sparrow

Lincoln's Sparrow

A Great Horned Owl nest I found in northern Meeker County now has two owlets.

In Otter Tail County and neighboring counties to the SW no migrants that others
haven't reported for the state, but many White-throated and Vesper Sparrows
were found in numerous locations.

[mou-net] Jackson Co. birds this weekend

2009-04-27 Thread Eric Harrold
Observed the first Brown Thrasher of the year in my yard and had an abundance
of Sparrows continuing - Harris, Clay-colored, Lincoln's and White-throated
coming to the feeding station. Saw my first Broad-winged Hawk for the year in
Kilen Woods yesterday along with the above mentioned sparrows plus
White-crowned. It appears that warbler movement is happening in earnest, but
other than Yellow-rumped the only thing I saw was a Tennessee. Should be a
great time to visit Kilen in the next few days.

[mou-net] Avocet-Bass Ponds Henn. Cty.

2009-04-27 Thread James Pomplun
I saw a single male Avocet at Bass Ponds this morning ~1020am. If you walk
~20 yards from post #7 towards post #6 it was at the distance of the beaver
lodge about one binocular field to the right. Around 10 minutes later it
flew toward post #6, but I couldn't see it again or where it landed. This
must be a good year for Avocets hereabouts. Wish I brought my scope. Jim

[mou-net] Avocets Willets

2009-04-27 Thread Bruce Baer
BlankEight Willets and one Avocet were at the orange fence overflow area into
Long Meadow Lake of Hogback Pond at 2:30.

Four Willets were on the east side of the Highway 77 bridge at the old beaver
lodge. This is opposite Pond C that was dug out last year.

[mou-net] Hooded Warbler - Rice Co.

2009-04-27 Thread Dave Bartkey
Hi everyone,

Saturday afternoon (4/25), Gene Bauer had called me stating that he and Lyle
Myers had found a male Hooded Warbler in the Cannon River Wilderness Park, west
side. Tonight after work, I thought it a long shot but I stopped home and
grabbed my daughter Emma to accompany me on a walk to see what we could find.
We re-found the Hooded Warbler in the same area Gene had spotted it on
Saturday! The west side of Cannon River Wilderness Park is located off of Hwy.
3, 8 miles south of Northfield. Turn left onto 151st St. E. and go 1.3 miles to
the parking lot. From the lot, keep to the right along the woodline and you
will see a red gate. This marks the trail you want to follow. Keep on this
trail and follow along the river. Look for the warbler around where the trail
starts curving to the left, just past where the trail is very close to eroding
away. It was foraging low, and when we first spied it, it was probably less
than two feet away from our knees! Very good looks without binocs! While
observing it, it flew across the river but we could still hear it doing its
unique chip.

Emma and I had 7 species of warbler here tonight plus Blue-gray Gnatcatcher!

Good birding!
