[mou-net] Northern Hawk Owl in Aitkin County

2010-04-25 Thread Linda Sparling
I was surprised by a Northern Hawk Owl flying in front of my face at Cty Rds
18 and 5 in Aitkin County. It was dusk and I'd stopped to look for the
Short-eared Owls reported earlier. The owl stopped at the pole in front of me,
then continued east along 18. No other owls.
Nothing else of note, but fun for me:
2 Pine Warlbers (m & f)
1 Hermit Thrush on Cty 18, pausing in my headlights before moving to the trees
to start singing
American Woodcocks peenting along County 18 between Hebron Cemetary and Pietz's
Road
Northern Goshawk molting into adult plumage

[mou-net] update on Willet - Ramsey Co.

2010-04-25 Thread Bill Litkey
By 3:00 the Willet on western White Bear Lake had worked its way eastward along
the
shore to Banning and Lake Avenues. Another nice county discovery, Erik.

[mou-net] Cinnamon Teal, Carver County, not sighted

2010-04-25 Thread Steve Rosenberg
>From 8-10:30 a.m. this morning (Sunday April 25th), several birders were
present at Salem Rd. in Carver County and did not see the Cinnamon Teal.
Two Great Egrets and one Wilson's Snipe were the most interesting species
there.

[mou-net] Eastern Towhee

2010-04-25 Thread bgraves
There was a female (quite beautiful) eastern towhee feeding on the ground with
a few northern cardinals and chipping sparrows around 11:30 am. The red winged
blackbirds completely monopolized the seed feeders with some common grackles.
The downys and hairys were also busy at the suet feeders. There were very few
chickadees and white breasted nuthatches. I don't think they enjoy the
commotion that the black birds cause. The towhee picture (links to it) will be
available upon request...

[mou-net] Douglas County birds (RAVEN pair), also Albany sewage

2010-04-25 Thread John P. Ellis
Saw a pair of Ravens Friday (4/23) between 12:15 and 12:55 PM and again
Saturday AM about 8:45 in the same area south of Miltona, MN bounded by
Willow Road, Carlos-Miltona Road, Douglas county 5 and the railroad that
runs N-S west of MIltona 65. A local farmer stopped to ask me what I was
seeing (the birds were NOT there then) and when I told him he said that he
had noted a bird that he thought was a really BIG crow early last week in
the air over his farm (just south) so the birds have probably been in the
area for a while. I think its probably a county record of some kind.
Also had groups of 4 and 6 Willets in wet, grassy areas in Douglas and
one just S of Albany sewage pond (West.) Also had a few Yellowlegs in
Douglas (and Albany) but no shorebirds other than Killdeer, Snipe and
Woodcock. Had Bonapartes in Douglas and at Albany. Had a single CSwift in
Douglas but not much new other than the above and a Vesper Sp.

[mou-net] Willet, Ramsey County

2010-04-25 Thread Erik Collins
This morning at 11:00 there was a Willet at White Bear Lake. It was on the
beach at Lake Ave. and Clark Ave. It appeared to be favoring one leg.
