[mou-net] Black Dog New Year's day

2010-12-31 Thread James P. Mattsson
I plan to view gulls, etc. at the power plant causeway tomorrow, Jan 1. I will
be at the main gate on Black Dog Road at 4:00 p.m. I have a gate key and this
is the ONLY way to access the causeway viewing area. Anyone and everyone is
welcome to join me. Park directly across the road from the main gate. We will
walk in from the parking lot as a group. The walk is about 150 m or so. Should
be out by around 5:00pm. I guarantee you will see birds.

[mou-net] Brown Thrasher- Maplewood

2010-12-31 Thread Mike Majeski
I had to take a double take, but there was a Brown Thrasher at my feeder
this morning eating black oil sunflower seeds. The bird was scratching
the seed with its feet while inside the feeder and then seemed to be
caching the seeds at the base of a nearby pine tree amongst the needles
on the ground. I managed to binoscope it with my cell phone camera (of
course we don't have our camera at home today, doh.). What a great bird
to end the year!

[mou-net] Stoney River Forest Rd Lake Co

2010-12-31 Thread sparky stensaas
On Wed I birded the Stoney River Forest Road in Lake County.

It is not plowed ...except for the northernmost 1.5 miles. The rest is a rough
two- track rut through rather deep snow. The Subaru Forester made it just fine.
Whyte Road is just a snowmobile trail now. Tomorrow's snowstorm should shut
down the road...Possibly for the winter as the only logging I saw was at the
very northern end.
