[mou-net] barred owl diet question
I have a friend who lives near Duluth who has had barred owls visiting her yard the last several years. This week she saw an owl harvesting earth worms and was wondering if this was a normal part of their diet as she has not observed that before. I have found no mention of worms as part of their diet but they are described as opportunistic feeders. Any thoughts? [mou-net] Scoping Little Vadnais mudflats
On my way back from St. Paul Audubon walk in White Bear, I scoped the mudflats at south end of Little Vadnais. Surprised to see two Common Terns and a Redhead among 20+ Cormorants. [mou-net] Dicksissel's seen near Randolph Mn
We were down in the Rosemount area today and decided to head over to Randoph Mn. Just north of Randolph off hwy 56 and 284th we came across a number of Dicksissels. Male, female and offspring, we think. They were on fence posts and signposts. Maybe seven or eight all together. Loggerhead shrike were also spotted off of 190th and Fisher near Vermillion on lines. On one of the dirt roads we also saw a horned lark. Ron Taube Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] Aitkin Co Great Grey Owl

[mou-net] Eastern Wood-Phoebe
So I went outside to find the bird making the strong, whistle call. Snapped some pictures and the then pulled up eNature to listen to bird calls to identify it. According to eNature it is/was an Eastern Wood-Phoebe. How come the Eastern Wood-Phoebe is not in Sibley's? nor my National Audubon? nor my ancient Golden Bird book? The picture on eNature was exactly what I saw as well. Just curious to your thoughts. As a new birder it is confusing to find a bird on a website and not in any of my bird books. [mou-net] Hooded Warbler
Milt Blomberg and I relocated the Hooded Warbler at Lebanon Hills this morning at 11:15. The bird was calling near the no 48 marker. We got some very good looks and the bird stayed in the area. We went in off the 120th street W. Equestrian trail head. Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
