[mou-net] Solitaire
After a bit of an absence, a Townsend's Solitaire returned to Ann Lake/Sand Dunes area this morning, in the bare deciduous trees 100 yards west/right of the parking lot. Re: [mou-net] Gray Catbird in Shoreview, redux
The bird was seen again this morning; that's three days in a row now (in addition to the December 13th appearance). I've had a few responses to my message, and I just wanted to let you know that we will keep an eye on it. We will be out of town over the next few weeks. House sitters will be here most of the time. Not big birders, but they can tell a catbird from a handsaw. I will have my BirdCam set up, too. According to Janssen (3rd ed, 1992) only two individuals have been known to overwinter in the state (last one in 1975). The online MOU occurrence map seems to indicate a third in Lake County in 2006-2007. So we know the odds are long. I won't post about this more than once a week now. [mou-net] spotting scope loan?
Hi all - Sorry if this is off-topic, but I'm wondering if anyone in the metro area would be willing to let me borrow a modest spotting scope/tripod from January 7-12. My wife and I just got a last-minute vacation package to Sanibel, FL and we'll be birding Ding Darling NWR, Corkscrew Swamp, etc. We'd enjoy trying a scope out before investing in our own, especially with little time to shop around. I'd be happy to leave a deposit or provide other security to the lender. Happy holidays! [mou-net] C. Redpolls, St. Paul
The C. Redpolls have finally shown up in our backyard (Randolph Heights, east end of Macalester-Groveland), for only the second year ever in memory, appearing both yesterday and today in the early hours, to feed on the thistle sock. What a sweet Christmas gift !
