[mou-net] Birds Beers Aug 26th, 6:00~9:30 Black Forest Inn, Mpls
There will be a meeting of Birds Beers at the Black Forest Innhttp://www.blackforestinnmpls.com/ on Monday Aug 26th at 6 to 9:30pm or so. The Black Forest Inn is at 26th and Nicollet and has a free parking lot. Birds Beers is an informal gathering of birders. We usually meet once a month and try to vary the location and day of the week when someone has a good suggestion. This is nice way to meet others who share your passion for birds. There is a Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Birds-and-Beers/217524724761 page, and more can be seen at the Birdchick Bloghttp://www.birdchick.com/wp/birds-and-beers/ . Aug 26th happens right in the middle of the fair and we hope to see some new faces because of that. You are welcome! -- Curt Rawn Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] blue-gray gnatcatcher, hennepin co
I have seen a pair of blue-gray gnatcatcher in the Old Cedar Bridge area twice in the last week. They were in the trees to the left of the boardwalk to the observation deck. I am somewhat new to birding so I have a question about this bird brought about because I have rarely seen this bird mentioned on the list-serve. According to the MVNWR birdlist it is uncommon (present but not often seen) in this area. We are at the northern edge of its' range. Is it not reported because it is not often seen or do most birders see it often enough that they feel they do not need to mention it? [mou-net] Parasitic Jaegers, Duluth/Superior
While birding at Wisconsin Point today I observed five different Parasitic Jaegers (1 light juvenile, 3 light adults, and 1 dark adult). I initially saw a light morph juvenile from the Superior Entry in the late morning, which briefly crossed into Minnesota waters, but was otherwise seen in Wisconsin. I then birded along Wisconsin Point between Gull Bluff and Lot 1, where I saw repeated attacks of jaegers at gulls until mid-afternoon. At one point, a flock of four jaegers came down the beach, which included three light adults and one dark adult. It was not until looking at my photos tonight that I realized I had seen five jaegers, rather than just four. Hopefully these jaegers will be seen at Wisconsin Point for the next few weeks. I posted a photo of the juvenile to MOU Recently Seen. I also uploaded a fun close-up image of this same juvenile (taken off gull bluff in Wisconsin) to www.pbase.com/karlbardon/jaegers. Re: [mou-net] blue-gray gnatcatcher, hennepin co
I see them regularly in a restored oak savannah in Mpls, 36TH street and West River Parkway. This is not a common bird to me but they nest in this area, I was told they like the natural brambles there and so nest in this area. I have seen them there regularly for 10+ years. Incidentally, also a good area as indigo buntings nest there as well, I see or hear them every day there. Great crested fly catchers also nest in the area. I have not yet seen the vermilion fly catchers there, perhaps they just move through this area.
