The Northern Hawk-Owl was present today at 11:30am about .5 miles north of
the intersection of Tagus and 220th Street. It was on a power pole at house
number 22749.

In Hutchinson the heavily barred Snowy Owl was still sitting on the roof of
the house at the corner of Bradford St SE and Denver at 11:45am today.

[mou-net] MOU Membership Directory on moumn.org

2014-02-24 Thread David Cahlander
The MOU membership list is available on moumn.org. You can reach it for
the main page http://moumn.org by clicking on

Contact or Join the MOU -> MOU Member Directory

You can access the directory by typing a members name into the box, or
by clicking on the region that the member is in. This directory was
developed with comments from the ECC and Elizabeth Bell. You need to be
logged into the web site and be a current member of MOU in order to see
the directory. The information about a member is produced as an image
so you can not cut-and-paste information from this directory.

1. You need to have an moumn.org login to see this directory as well as
being a paid up member of MOU.
2. The member information comes up as a .png file so it can't be
cut-and-pasted or found with a robot.
3. Some members have asked that their email address not be added to the
directory. These email addresses are excluded.
4. Some members have indicated that they don't want their address to be
in a directory. These have been excluded.
5. Addresses that have changed (we get The Loon bounced back) have been
indicated as "Unknown Address".

Any comments are welcome.

Reports: (763) 780-8890
Compiler: Anthony Hertzel (r...@moumn.org)

This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Sunday February 23rd, 2014.

After no reports for almost two months, on February 22nd, the LEWIS'S
WOODPECKER was again seen at the feeders of Janet Anderson in the town
of Roosevelt. This is along Roseau County Road 17 just north of highway
11 and the first house on the left after passing over railroad tracks.
Please do not call or bother the Andersons in the evenings, and note
that the bird had also been reported at the house directly to the east
in Lake of the Woods County.

Extraordinary was the first Minnesota winter record of a RED-THROATED
LOON, which was picked up injured in Isanti County on February 19th. It
is now recovering at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Roseville.

In Stearns County near the Sherburne County line, a LONG-TAILED DUCK is
being seen just below the 10th Street dam.

In the Sax-Zim Bog of St. Louis County, two BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS
were along McDavitt Road on the weekend of the 15th.

On the 15th, a CAROLINA WREN was at the home of Roxanne Morgan in
Houston, Houston County.

On the 10th, a TOWNSEND SOLITAIRE was in the Whitewater WMA, on the west
side of state highway 74, one and a quarter miles north of Winona County
Road 26.

BALD EAGLES are incubating eggs in Ramsey County, and GREAT HORNED OWLS
are also nesting in a few scattered spots. Despite the cold, I have
several reports of what are probably northbound migrants, including
BELTED KINGFISHER, NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, HORNED LARK, FOX SPARROW, and
HARRIS'S SPARROW.

The next scheduled update is Thursday March 6th, 2014.

Compiler: Jim Lind (jsl...@frontiernet.net)

This is the Duluth Birding Report for February 24th, 2013 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

With the recent extreme winter weather, there is very little to report
outside of the Sax-Zim Bog. SNOWY OWLS continue to be seen along CR 7
near the Zim Road and along CR 27 near the Greenfield Road, and NORTHERN
HAWK OWLS have been seen along Owl Avenue, along CR 27 west of CR 5, and
along the Stone Lake Road. A GREAT GRAY OWL has been seen sporadically
along the Admiral Road and two BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were seen along
the McDavitt Road on the weekend of the 15th.

The only recent gull reports I have are from the Superior landfill near
Wisconsin Point. GLAUCOUS GULLS, GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS, THAYER'S
GULL, and LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were reported on the weekend of the
15th. The western tip of Lake Superior is almost completely ice covered
with only scattered open patches that change daily.

The next scheduled update of this report will be on March 6th.

The telephone number of the Duluth Rare Bird Alert is 218-834-2858.
Information about bird sightings may be left following the recorded
message.

The Duluth Birding Report is sponsored and funded by the Minnesota
Ornithologists' Union (MOU) as a service to its members. For more
information on the MOU, either write us c/o the Bell Museum, e-mail us
at m...@moumn.org, or visit the MOU web site at moumn.org.
