[mou-net] Birds and Beers is on June 18th at the Black Forest Inn, Hennepin county

2014-06-03 Thread Curt Rawn
Birds and Beers is on Wednesday, June 18th at the Black Forest Inn in Mpls.
at 6 pm. We felt we needed a little patio time and this place has the
nicest one in town. So, please join us! http://www.blackforestinnmpls.com/
There is a Facebook page for Birds and Beers, too.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Birds-and-Beers

Birds and Beers is an informal gathering of birders of all abilities–if
you’re interested in birds, you’re invited. You can meet other
birders–maybe find a carpool buddy, ask about where to find target birds,
share cool research projects you might be working on, ask a bird feeding
question, share life lists, share some digiscoping tips, promote your
blog–the sky is the limit. It's low key and it's fun.

[mou-net] Yellow-throated Warbler still present in Mantorville (Dodge Co.)

2014-06-03 Thread Gerald Hoekstra
The Yellow-throated Warbler reported by Roy Zimmerman on May 30 was still
present today. Kevin Smith and I found it on the east side of St. Margaret
Cemetery, the same location where Roy found it last weekend. It moved
between trees and sang constantly while we were there.

[mou-net] Blue Grosbeak and Upland Sandpiper - Lyon County

2014-06-03 Thread Josh Wallestad
This morning I followed up on a report by Garrett Wee of Blue Grosbeaks at the
Cottonwood sewage ponds. Last week Garrett found two males and a female on
the brushy, large hill along the trail heading into the ponds. Today I saw and
photographed one of the males and quite possibly saw a female as well.

Garrett gave me another tip to check out Lone Tree Lake a couple miles to the
northwest of Cottonwood where there has been a pair of nesting Upland
Sandpipers in the grassy Wildlife Management Area on the northeast end of the
lake as well as in the hayfield on the other side of the road. I was able to
see
one of the Upland Sandpipers there today along with two Bobolinks.

Another fun find was a female Wood Duck on Sham Lake with 17 ducklings in tow!

Good birding!

The annual MRVAC Dakota Co. Prairie Birds Field Trip was drowned out last
Sunday and has been rescheduled to a hopefully drier next Sunday (June

[mou-net] Least Bittern, Rudy Kraemer Nature Preserve (Burnsville)

2014-06-03 Thread Andy Forbes
Heard a Least Bittern this morning at @520AM at Rudy Kraemer Nature
Preserve in Burnsville, while conducting a volunteer bird survey for
the City.

The area is located off of Hwy. 13, across from Menard's. Here's a
link to a map-
https://plus.google.com/109690061520043567430/about?gl=us&hl=en#109690061520043567430/about?gl=us&hl=en

The bird was calling from the cattails from the wetland east of the
parking lot, heard from the boardwalk that goes across the wetland.
