[mou-net] Yellow-throated Warbler: Hennepin Co.
A Yellow-throated Warbler was still present at Gold Medal Park in Minneapolis around 3:30 today. It was in the trees between the river and the bike/pedestrian path, about 300 feet west of where the path descends towards the river. [mou-net] Wilmar Piping Plover - flew at 1:45
I watched the Piping Plover on the beach at Robbins Island park from 1:20 to 1:45 PM. A number of people started using the beach then at it flew north along the shoreline. I did not see any bands on the bird. Thanks to all who posted! Hopefully it will return when the beach quiets down. Joel Claus Hennepin County Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE DROID

[mou-net] Birding
Last night I wnet down to Eggert Lake near New Prague and was able to locate the pair of BB Whistling Ducks in the farm pond south west of the lake in late dusk as the light was fading. I did not pay much attention to the waterfowl and other birds at the lake but did note Ring-neck Ducks and even more surprising was a few Scaup. I then headed over to the Frontenac area of Goodhue Co. to run my frog & toad survey, which is run after dark. It was colder than I expected, but still a good night for the survey. American Toads were calling everywhere. The only other widespread singer was Gray Treefrog. A few Spring Peepers, a Northern Leopard, and a Green Frog were also heard. Night birds calling included Barred Owl, Whip-poor-will, Killdeer, and Sedge Wren. Whip-poor-wills were calling from only one of three expected location, which was near CR2 and Florence Trail. They were not calling from a valley along CR5 where I have found them probably every year for the last 12 years. Sedge Wrens were singing at a couple of locations including near the bridge by Villa Maria. A few nights ago I glanced out my window as the last light of the day was fading to see streaking by, a large bat. It had a very strong, fast, and direct flight, and a wing span of about a foot. It appeared to be whitish on back and I concluded it was probably a Hoary Bat. There were probably several of them flying. [mou-net] Brown County Big Day
Hey birders, Andrew Krenz and Aaron Pietsch joined me for a day of birding in Brown County. We started about 12:30am and finished with Common Nighthawks in Hanska at 9:38pm. On the day, we ended up with 138 species. Synopsis and highlights appear below. Migrant passerines were hard to come by and we were fortunate to do well with summer residents—no non-resident vireos, no non-resident sparrows, only 10 non-resident warblers. Family synopsis: 13 waterfowl, 2 grebes, 3 herons, 6 hawks, 13 shorebirds, 3 owls, 7 woodpeckers, 7 flycatchers, 3 vireos, 5 swallows, 6 thrushes, 15 warblers, 10 sparrows, 9 blackbirds. Highlights: A pair of Greater White-fronted Geese were found resting with the Canadas at a small marsh on the northeast side of Sleepy Eye. A Western Kingbird was found near Lone Tree Lake in the northeast corner of the county. Eared Grebes were found at the Sleepy Eye sewage ponds and at a small pond in the south-central part of the county. Henslow's Sparrows were found in 4 locations with a total of 7 birds. Three birds were singing in the prairie at Flandrau State Park. A Prothonotary Warbler was heard at Minecon Park in New Ulm, but it stopped singing before we could determine which side of the river it was on and it was not included in our count. Happy birding!
