An Osprey pair have returned to there nest at Bucher park in Shoreview. It is
located just south of county road J, and east of Hodgeson road. They are on a

The Widgeon found by those terrific birders and Bemidji State students Becca
and Alex was
still present later this afternoon but the bird moved north on the pond and was
visible from
the road on 30th Ave. SE and can be seen from the road by by an active magpie
nest.

There’s a Western Grebe visible from the boat ramp on the Goodhue side of Lake
Byllesby.
Look east where the Horned Grebes are.

Re: [mou-net] Carolina Wren - Mendota Hts (110 & 149)

2018-04-27 Thread Dale Trexel
Here is video/audio confirmation of the ID: https://youtu.be/5C3lBAUyNoQ

I should probably qualify the "calling frequently" to indicate that when
it's singing, it does so pretty constantly for 5-10 minutes, but it can go
quiet for long stretches. After Jeff ID'ed the song from our yard (it was
audible, but distant to our north), I went out to get a closer look and
narrow down the location, and I wandered around for 20-30 minutes before it
started up singing again. It was in the same general area from which we'd
first heard it. The video above is just SW of the intersection of Apache
St. and Cheyenne Ln. So far it's been staying north of Dakorah Ln., east of
Apache.

The bird was singing high up in deciduous trees (mostly silver maples in
our neighborhood), so easier to watch without making the neighbors nervous.

[mou-net] Carlos Avery WMA Gates are open

2018-04-27 Thread Deters, Marshall (DNR)
The gates that are normally open at Carlos Avery WMA were opened this morning
Fri 4/27. The roads are in good condition.
Waterfowl are very active, even though most pools are mostly still frozen.
Many non-breeding bald eagles are also using the area right now.

[mou-net] Carolina Wren - Mendota Hts (110 & 149)

2018-04-27 Thread J. Eddy
Had a Carolina Wren singing this morning 7-8AM from the residential
neighborhood known as Friendly Hills in Mendota Heights (Dakota County).
The bird was keeping to back yards along Apache St between Decorah Ln and
Cheyanne Ln but calling frequently.

At the end of that section of Apache St is an open grassy area with brushy
edges that sits right up against Friendly Marsh/Dodge Nature Center. If the
birds sticks around I bet that is where it ends up as it is good habitat
for them. We've had Mourning Warbler there in past years as well.

[mou-net] Carver county - 150h Street update

2018-04-27 Thread William Marengo
A quick visit to this spot south of Cologne yesterday showed only modest
numbers of waterfowl present despite abundant water levels. With the opening of
water elsewhere the waterfowl has moved on. No need to make any visits to this
area for waterfowl.

Regards.
