Re: [mou-net] Black-legged Kittiwakes- Olmsted County
The bird in question did appear to have a dark trailing edge to the underwing, suggesting first winter Bonapartes. The upper wing was patterned with the M. I now believe this to be the most likely identification. Sorry for the confusion. Re: [mou-net] Fwd: Re: [mou-net] Cattle Egret - Dakota County
I searched for the Dakota Cattle Egret between 6:25 and 7:25 this evening without success. It appears to have run before the brief storm which hit just as I arrived. A single Willet was present at the south end of the marsh (where the egret was last seen about an hour earlier). [mou-net] Plegadis ibis at Getchell Lake in Stearns Co.
Today along the northeast shore of Getchell Lake in Stearns Co. there was a Plegadis ibis; I first noticed it at 11:25, and it was there when I left at 1:00. It was an adult, but was always between 400 and 800 yards away, so my ability to evaluate bare-part colors was quite limited: legs were pinkish red and bill was grayish, but I couldn't determine color of the bare facial skin, and I *for sure* couldn't determine iris color. Also, there was an obvious whitish border above and below the bare facial skin; couldn't be sure if it went behind the eye. So, the breadth of the whitish border, especially below the bare facial skin, in combination with the pinkish red legs, is suggestive of White-faced Ibis, though as was mentioned above I was a "few cents short of a dollar," identification-wise, given especially the problems posed by mixed-blood Plegadis. [mou-net] Black-necked Stilt - Swift Co
There are currently five Black-necked Stilts at the Murdock Sewage Ponds along CR 33 just NE of town. The birds were on the most northerly pond, easily viewed from gate. Later they flew to the middle pond, which cannot be viewed. This appears to be a first county record. Also present were four Willets. [mou-net] Hooded Warbler - Sherburne NWR
This morning on Sherburne's Blue Hill Trail Maureen & I spotted a male HOODED WARBLER. It was midway between the base of Blue Hill and the beginning of the spruce plantation. He was readily seen and quite vocal. Sometimes he did the full typical song, but often sang only the closing 3-4 notes. Other species of note, all on the Blue Hill Trail, except the final 2 species were on the Mahnomen Trail: Lark Sparrow Many Eastern Towhees Palm Warblers Yellow-rumped Warblers Yellow Warbler Black and White Warblers - 2 Common Yellowthroat Ovenbird Sora - heard Virginia Rail - heard Northern Harrier Hermit Thrush Swainson's Thrush Red-headed Woodpecker Slate-colored Junco - seems like a straggler Ron & Maureen Refsnider Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] American Avocet and Sanderling Wabasha County
(Posted by Becca Engdahlvia moumn.org) The Hockemas, Alex Burchard, Kim Emerson and I stopped at the flooded fields in Wabasha County at the intersection of 24 and T-66 just north east of Kellogg. A good number of birds here, but the best weve found so far are one SANDERLING and an AMERICAN AVOCET! Re: [mou-net] Updates on KEWA?
We walked the path after crossing bridge for sometime yesterday before going back and walking OTHER side of bank. That was how we finally found the bird. It was skulking under some dead logs right on the stream bank, well before large dead log across stream. Check both sides of the bank. Good luck.
