[mou-net] Virginia Rails, Dakota County
We swung through 140th Street this morning and saw not one but two Virginia Rails! One crossed the road in front of us, the other sat in the long grass along the edge of the road in plain sight. Not much else of interest, we heard several Soras but did not see them. Lots of Yellow-headed blackbirds. [mou-net] Red Lake & Marshall/Polk birds
This morning the Cinnamon Teal was still at the Agassiz impoundment. The female associating with it appeared to have a shorter bill. There was still one American Avocet at the Red Lake rice paddies - on the east side of 350th Ave (N of 150 St). There were no Whimbrels at the gravel pit. The 20 or so Marbled Godwits that were there yesterday were also gone today. [mou-net] Hooded Warbler: Sherburne NWR
On Wednesday, May 29, I found a Hooded Warbler along the Blue Hill Trail about one mile in where trail turns into a fire lane. This bird was in the understory next to the pines on the southwest corner of the trail. I first heard the bird singing and then obtained several visuals, each lasting several seconds to ten seconds. The bird had bright yellow underparts, olive-green upperparts, a yellow face with a black hood and black throat.
