[mou-net] Fwd: [mou-net] Minnetonka Siskins
We also had a BUNCH of siskins this weekend, in south Eagan, very near Lebanon Hills. And a red breasted nuthatch. I've seen three RBNU this season so far. Most years I don't see any all year at our place. [mou-net] Waubay NWR CDC - Dec 18
I'll be doing the CBC at Waubay National Wildlife Refuge in Waubay, SD, on Tuesday, December 18, morning meetup 7:45 at the Refuge Headquarters. This is about 45 miles west of Ortonville. I've never done the Christmas Count there before, but I have birded the area during the summer and it's a beautiful place, lots of good lakes and woods and prairie highlands to explore. If any of our western-tier birders would be interested in coming along, I'm open to meeting that morning in Ortonville and carpooling. I may have another companion (still tentative) so I'll say I'd have room for at least 2 in my car. If anyone would be interested, please let me know by Friday, December 14. Or, if anyone is interested in attending but doesn't necessarily want to carpool, you can contact Laura Hubers, count coordinator, at: laura_hub...@fws.gov -- Jason M. [mou-net] Minnetonka Siskins
This weekend we had a large influx of Pine Siskin’s as many as 52 at one time although we’ve had a few for three weeks. Also for the last month we’ve had two Red-breasted Nuthatch’s. At our home feeders near Ridgedale. Ken Larson Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] Update: Tufted Duck ID confirmed
The female/juvenile Tufted Duck reported earlier at Canal Park in Duluth has now reappeared there after flying off ~10 minutes after I first saw it around 11:00 am. Don Kienholz and John Richardson relocated it and had better looks than I did; John is now getting photos. He is very familiar with the species having seen it in the UK and concurs with my somewhat tentative ID earlier. -Kim Eckert Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] Possible/probable Tufted Duck in Duluth
Female-plumaged bird found in shipping channel in Canal Park 15 minutes ago. Looked like female Greater Scaup with horizontal inch-long tuft at hindcrown. First thought tuft was set of disheveled crown feathers but didn’t appear so the more I watched it for ten minutes. But had no scope or camera with me and ship went through and flushed everything. 100-plus goldeneye also there but this duck mostly outside the flock. Don’t know which way it flew. Will update if bird is relocated with a positive ID. -Kim Eckert, Duluth Sent from my iPhone Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
