[mou-net] Villa Park Roseville and Lake Phalen sightings

2021-04-27 Thread Keith Carlson
Saw our first

Green Herons

of the year along with

Wood Ducks
Canada Geese
Egrets
Mallards
Red Wing Blackbird
Yellow Rumped Warbler, and
Turkeys

and heard Red Bellied Woodpeckers
at Villa Park, Roseville

At Lake Phalen, Maplewood, we were treated to a nice over-flight of about 35

White Pelicans

In addition, I saw around 20

Red Breasted Mergansers

on the north end of the lake with possibly four

Bufflehead

off the far western shore and a likely

Nashville Warbler

in the bushes along the NE shoreline.

[mou-net] Slightly early Oriole, etc. (east metro)

2021-04-27 Thread Kyle Te Poel
Was (slightly) surprised to have a (slightly, by my records) Baltimore
Oriole this morning in White Bear Lake. My earliest by a few days, and the
only one I had in the morning while birding at a number of spots in Ramsey
and Washington Counties. Aside from a big jump in Yellow-Rumped Warbler
numbers--at one point so many were flying across the road I was worried I'd
hit a bunch of them (thankfully I didn't), nothing else was of note. Still
a decent mix of scattered waterfowl species but no big gatherings.

White throated and chipping sparrows have joined our multitudes of Juncos
across the street from Lake Superior in east Duluth.

[mou-net] update

2021-04-27 Thread Sid Stivland
After further research and more discussion with my wife, I am not confident
in my warbler ID from yesterday. Perhaps we will get another visit today
to confirm the ID.

[mou-net] Warblers in Plymouth

2021-04-27 Thread Sid Stivland
Things are heating up at the opulent Stivland ranch in Plymouth.

Four male and at least three female Golden-winged Warblers were foraging in
the oak tree on the south side of our house yesterday, visible from the
kitchen window less than ten feet away. Also, one male and four female
Purple Finches were dining at the sunflower feeder.

Wood Ducks and Hooded Mergansers have been on the pond since early April.
I have not checked the boxes but hens are likely occupying at least some of
them, if the presence of Mr. Hoody and the absence of Mrs. Hoody on the
pond has any significance.

No sign of Bluebirds, yet. Chickadees, Cardinals, Robins, Mourning Doves,
Song Sparrows, House Finches, and Nuthatches very vocal and some species,
i.e. Chickadees, busily visiting nest boxes with nesting materials.
