[mou-net] Ducks in Spring Lake, Dakota County

2022-03-16 Thread C. E.
Hundreds of diving ducks in open water in Spring Lake, Dakota County. I
viewed them from Bud's Landing (44.7545943,-92.9729507). A scope is
necessary.

At least 30 Long-tailed Ducks swimming in little flotillas, dozens of
Common Mergansers, Common Goldeneye, a handful of Canvasback and
Ring-necked Ducks, and hundreds of Mallards. I also counted 30 Bald Eagles
on the ice nearby and a few Coots and Ring-billed Gulls.

The 2/3 mile gravel road to Bud's Landing is very muddy but passable.
Parking just off Pine Bend Trail but don't block the gate.

[mou-net] Swans and Geese

2022-03-16 Thread Mary Hickerson
For the past several days a small flock of Canada geese has been mixed in
with the swans in open water just above the Gull Lake dam. Swans are
displaying territorial mating rituals.

[mou-net] Chanhassen Red-shouldered Hawks

2022-03-16 Thread Paul Worwa
Sunday morning I was greeted by the loud calls of "our' pair of Red-shouldered
Hawks, returning for a 15th consecutive year to the nature area behind our
home. Unfortunately, their calls drew in one of the Red-tailed Hawks that moved
into the area last year, and they all disappeared after a skirmish. I am hoping
the RS Hawks are able to nest in the area again , and not be driven away by the
RT Hawks.
