A photo depicting the bird was attached to the sighting. I am seeing a trend that many Minnesota birders who are not Facebook members are not knowing about casual or accidental sightings that have shown up in Minnesota. For example the Eurasian Tree Sparrow was posted initially on Facebook another Facebook site then shared on the Minesota Birding Facebook site. After 2-3 days this sighting eventually made to the MOU newsletter. This is not the first time this has happen where I see a significant sighting being posted on Minnesota Birding but it took 1-3 days after the initial sighting, the sighting was shared to the MOU listserv. Hopefully the administrators of Minnesota Birding on Facebook can discuss about sharing casual and accidental bird sightings in MN to the MOU listserv on a timely basis. Has anyone else besides me notice this trend? Maybe it's not a big deal but I thought I share this for discussion. Waiting for the warblers to arrive in Duluth. Hi All -- On Thursday (May 24th) I was doing some birding up north. I was driving along CR 8 northwest of Baudette. I stopped to check out some ducks in an inlet along the road and clearly heard the Peter Peter Peter call of a Tufted Titmouse. I am very familiar with this bird in Winona county where I live and hear them calling regularly. It was loudly calling from the woods in this area (GPS 48.764365,-94.677193). I played a titmouse call on the ipod to see if the bird would come out into view. It never did that I could see. I did seem to move around because the sound changed intensity and location. I was there listening to it for 5 to 10 minutes. I would love to know if that is what I heard. If someone is in this area or going to this area I would encourage you to investigate this. [mou-net] Duluth area birding
I will be in duluth on Thursday and am looking for someone to bird with or some ideas on where to go. I am familiar with park point and will be spending some time there. Anywhere else to check? [mou-net] Northern Mockingbird - Cook County
Saw a Northern Mockingbird just north of Grand Marais. Location is just off Hwy 61 north of town near small apartment complex and small yellow house with bird feeder. There were many White-crowned Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, Chipping Sparrows and one Lincoln's Sparrow at the feeder. I saw the mockingbird across the neighbors yard perched on a branch for close to a minute. Had full frontal view through spotting scope then he turned to the side and I saw the long tail and white wing markings. Also on the trip up here today saw 3 Peregrine Falcons, a Blackburnian Warbler and a few Ruby-crowned Kinglets. Beautiful day here in Grand Marais. I'll be damned if I can find a House Sparrow though. This is my first trip to Cook County and I need one for my county list. :) Andy Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
